    A good political film about a mayor running for his 5th and last election. This is not a great political film, but Tracy gives a good performance. It could have been better if they would have focused more on the political change that TV was inflicting on modern politics. The fil...( read more)m does address it but doesn't really show how much it had changed. It's a good film and well directed by John Ford, but I wish Tracy's character was a little more shrewed and less a great man. I would of liked to see more faults that a man receives after a life in politics. Worth a watch, but it needed to be less wholesome.

    Exceptional John Ford drama, helped immesurably by an incredible cast of veteran actors. Spencer Tracy is terrific as always. John Ford's direction is very subdued, giving the film a very interesting feel - it is never melodramatic. Nice black and white cinematography, well edite...( read more)d. Great pace.

    Very fine film with a typically great Tracy performance, cunning and wily. Jeffrey Hunter scores strongly as the nephew. Well directed.

    "The Last Hurrah" is a must see for Political Professionals If you are engaged in practical politics then the "The Last Hurrah" is a must for you. If you enjoy watching people or enjoy the company of people then you will enjoy the new characters that you will meet in the "Last Hu...( read more)rrah" The film introduces us to the character of "Ditto". If you have been in politics for long, you have met several Dittos and several of the other lively characters that are still fresh today. The competion between Police and Fire, the Funeral water, the Comodore /Fire Comisioneer, the GadFly Cadidate, and so many characters will look familiar for students of our system of government.
