i think it's a pretty good movie. i just watched it last night, and i think it's enough to give us such an action ancient movie. but aishwara role for me is just not fit. but it's pretty sad to saw what a little boy should carry such a responsibility to be a ceaser in very young ...( read more)age. it's funny, i like the jokes they made. overall, this movie is good, but they need more action and battle to make it more interesting. i only curious about the other enemy who still stand in rome, what happen to him? why don't he being defeated? that's strange...

Oh where to begin. So many cliches - the mysterious fighter who turns out to be a beautiful woman - I'm sorry but give me a break. It makes me chuckle and there were several parts that made me chuckle. I guess I'll say that it was a passable effort. The action was okay but th...( read more)e villains sucked, Colin Firth, as good as he can be, was not right for that role and Ben Kingsley tried to make the best out of what he was given. Aaahh well. You never know till you watch them all.

The credits did promise much more of this somewhat crappy film.
Set and surroundings and some special features works fine, but the script is everything from boring to just raving bad

This is straight outta the 'Robin Hood Prince of Thieves book' its better looking and more accurate than 'Thieves'but its still too silly and over the top. I thought it was a serious film at first, the cast are too D-list and not very good, it needed at least one or two big name...( read more)s in there. Although Rai is stunning to look at x the idea of a kind of prequel to the King Arthur story is a nice touch but this is just too silly.

this film could have been much better it seems it was made in a weekend as much time passes on the movie.. everything happens so fast... and there is no solitude in the story it feels half assed!!

The film is narrated by Ambrosinus, native to Britain, who knows of a legend con...( read more)cerning the sword of Julius Caesar, which was hidden away from evil men. It begins shortly before the coronation of Romulus as Emperor in 460.

Having traveled through much of the known world in search of Caesar's sword, Ambrosinus has then become Romulus's tutor. A Druid, he at times gives the impression he is a magician, but his "magic" is just trickery. Romulus's father Orestes apparently rules Rome but is not Emperor himself.

On the day before the coronation, Odoacer, commander of the barbarian Goths allied with Rome, demands a third of Italy from Orestes, but is rebuffed. The same day, Romulus meets the general of the Nova Invicta Legion, Aurelianus Caius Antonius called "Aurelius".

The night after Romulus is crowned, Rome is attacked by the Goths. Most of Aurelius's men, pledged to protect the emperor, are killed, though Aurelius is only stunned and left for dead. Orestes and his wife are killed by Odoacer's lieutenant Wulfila, who captures Romulus.

Next day, Odoacer, now ruler of the Western Empire, plans to have Romulus killed. However, Ambrosinus convinces Odoacer to spare the boy. Instead, Romulus is exiled to Capri along with Ambrosinus, guarded by Wulfila and his men. His prison is a villa constructed more than four centuries earlier by the emperor Tiberius.

With Ambrosinus's help, Romulus discovers Caesar's sword in a hidden chamber within the villa. He comes across a statue of Caesar holding the sword, forged by a Chalybian smith after his military campaigns in Britain. Writing near the statue's feet proclaims the sword was made for "he who is destined to rule". This is interpreted as a prophecy by various characters, and Romulus keeps the weapon.

The two are rescued from Capri by the loyal Aurelius and three surviving legionaries, accompanied by a female Indian warrior from Kerala named Mira, trained in the martial art of Kalarippayattu. They take Romulus to a seaport where the Eastern Roman Empire's emissary (whom Mira works for) and the senator Nestor have promised safe passage to Constantinople. However, they barely escape after they learn the Senate and the Eastern Empire have betrayed them and sided with Odoacer.

Ambrosinus persuades Romulus to seek refuge in Britain, where the Ninth Legion (called the Dragon Legion) may remain loyal, being far from the events. They are followed by Wulfila and his men; the Goth covets Caesar's sword after learning the prophecy. Crossing the Alps and the English Channel, the party travels to Hadrian's Wall and initially find no evidence of the legion until a farmer approaches and reveals he was its commander. With the collapse of Roman support of Britain, the legion had decided to disband and settle as farmers. They also did not want to antagonize the powerful warlord Vortgyn.

Vortgyn also desires the sword of Caesar as he aspires to rule the whole of Britain; after meeting with the Goths, he decides to either capture or kill Romulus as a gesture to Odoacer. Aurelius, wielding Ceasar's sword, leads a few supporters against Vortgyn's forces at Hadrian's Wall. The battle appears hopeless until the rest of the Ninth Legion, having taken up their old Roman arms and uniforms, appear and turn the tide. The two warring sides cease their hostilities when Ambrosinus kills Vortgyn at a temple near the battlefield. Romulus kills Wulfila with Caesar's sword, avenging his parents. He tells Aurelius that he fought like a dragon, whereupon Aurelius replies that Romulus fought like the son of a dragon.

Repulsed by the deaths in the battle, Romulus heaves away his sword which remarkably pierces a large rock and becomes lodged there. Many years later, Ambrosinus, now known as Merlin, takes a young boy to the battlefield to describe the now legendary events. Merlin, who has visibly aged little since the battle, says that Aurelius married Mira and raised Romulus as their own son, and Romulus became a wise ruler and adopted the name "Pendragon". The boy, Arthur, recognizes him as his father.

In 460 AD, the Goths leaded by Odoacer invade Rome; kill the parents of the Caesar Romulus Augustus and send the boy and his tutor Ambrosinus to a prison in Capri. The govern of Constantinople together with Senator Nestor send the warrior Mira to help the loyal commander Aurelius to rescue Romulus with a few soldiers that have survived the attack and bring him to Constantinople. They succeed in their mission but when they return, they discover that they have been betrayed by Nestor. Without any other alternative, they navigate to Britannia to meet the last Roman legion, but they have a huge surprise.

Circa 460 A.D. Mira was born in a warrior-family in Kerala, India, was well versed in martial arts and self-defense, so much so that she was recruited by the Spanish royalty and re-located to Constantinople. From there she was instructed to assist Roman Commander Aurelius to plan the escape of 12-year old Romulus Augustus Caesar from a prison in Capri after his parents had been killed by the leader of the Alliance in turmoil-stricken Rome that has seen the deaths of five emperors in five years. Mira, Aurelius, and a Priest, Ambrosinius, along with a handful of loyal soldiers were successful in the escape plan and deliver Romulus to Roman Senator Nestor. What the crew do not realize is that their task is not over yet, for Nestor is all set to betray Romulus, leaving them with no alternative but to flee to Britannia, where they will be forced to confront a seemingly invincible Vortygn, whose main aim is to obtain a powerful sword that was meant for defense and defeat, and also ensure the death of Romulus at any and all costs.

The Last legion" is a fantasy action-adventure in the vein of "The Sword and the Stone" set against the fall of Rome and its last emperor, 12 year-old Romulus Augustus, the boy who would rule for a day before losing all that he loved: his family, his home, and an empire that once stood for truth and honor. Imprisoned on the island-fortress of Capri, Romulus searches for a means of escape. He discovers instead "excaliburnus," the legendary sword of Julius Caesar, and realizes that he must do all in his power to save Rome. Aided by the clever strategies of his teacher, Ambrosinus, and the heroic skills of his loyal legionnaire, Aurelius, Romulus escapes the island. Accompanied by his friends and a mysterious envoy from Constantinople, Romulus travels to Britannia in search of the last Roman Legion ? the fabled Dragon Legion. There, Romulus will fight alongside his friends to make his last stand for Rome and take his first steps to becoming a man and he king who would father a legend.

The Last Legion just didn't click with me. It lacked the crucial sense of "epic-ness" that movies of this ilk need. The cast was unexciting, the story flew by without making an impression, it was just not fun to watch.

The whole King Arthur connection seemed to be just tacked on...( read more) in order to bring in more viewers. There was just enough history in the story to let the viewer know how horribly inaccurate it all was. Couldn't they at least have gotten a decent number of extras for the boring battle scenes?

Interesting enough. Pretty good. I really think DiCaprio is on his way to become an epic actor like Jack Nickelson!

The main character should have been Firth's character, not the kid. This is sad if this is the best entertainment the industry can offer the family audiences.
