What a mess of a film. I don't think I would call this campy...just bad. Some cool fight scenes and interesting ideas here and there, just extremely poor execution. Talk about plot holes and randomness...a shame too, because the characters are really interesting.
Side note: Almost gets a full star alone based on every scene with Captain Nemo fighting.
i like the whole idea of the film and the concept of all the different characters is something i would be totaly into.. maybe a bit more development on some of the characters would have made this a five star film!
This movie gets a horrible rep...from the moment it debuted it's taken quite a beating, but I really enjoyed it. It's taken from the comics and has a neat premise featuring a group of "heroes" taken from classic literature. The cast is good and has a good mix of story and action in it, especially when Nemo starts kicking everyone's ass like he's owed money. Connery is great as Quatermain, a man who has been portrayed countless times over the years in cinema but the former Bond does the best job. Not near as bad as it's been made out to be.
A Really Great Movie! The Action Is Awsome! The Acting Is Awsome! Everything About This Movie Is So Awsome! ''The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen'' Maybe The Greatest Action Movie Ever Made!
A combination of all my favourite fairy tale characters..i liked this movie because the story line was alright as were the visual effects, but mostly because of the characters.
Highly polished poo that makes no sense at all. Vampires that can walk in the daylight, submarines as big as ocean liners that can negotiate Venice canals. This is a mess.
What a great flick. I'm always for the dark hero shows. Where the good guys are not aways that good. As this one takes the cake. A vampire, and Mr. Hyde on the good side? If they are the good guys, imagine the bad ones.
The comics are really quite good, and in the very least quite interesting. This movie was just.. ill conceived. And the ending was too weird and unexplained for the common person. Perhaps literary references are just too commonplace in movies, so it doesn't carry the same weight. Either way, this movie could've been much better.
VERY GOOD movie that makes comic book heroes seem to come to life. Great script, scenery, acting, and special effects! Definitely a movie to add to your collection!
I really enjoy this movie, it is very cheesy at parts, but extremely entertaining. It is a guilty pleasure movie of mine. It really could have been an amazing movie, all it really needed was a solid script, and alot better CGI/editing. The idea itself is amazing, famous characters from classic books coming together to fight a famous villian from a classic book and all his men. Sean Connery stars as Alan Quatermain, the main character from King Solomon's Mines, Jason Flemyng as Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, Stuart Townshend as Dorian Gray from The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Shane West as Tom Sawyer. The film also stars The Invisable Man, Captain Nemo and his second in command Ishmael from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Mina Harker from Dracula. The main villian is Professor James Moriarty, the main antagonist from Sherlock Holmes. The sets, filming, and costumes are all great. The tone and feel are both amazing, the only thing that really hurts this movie is it's really bad CGI, and editing. Alltogether it's a very fun and entertaining thrill ride.
There hasn't been a movie that I've seen, for quite a while, that got me truly excited suchas this one. Not only was the plot fast paced and the CGI fantastic on their part, but the actors simply made the script come to life!! Beautiful inside hints throughout the movie that referenced a ton of books, stories, myths, etc. Action with, perhaps, a bit of romance, this is one movie to surely check out (if not just for Sean's performance!!!). Oh, and best rest assured, despite the drama and fast pace fighting scenes, there's plenty of humor. The characters themselves are so well defined that you begin to really feel for them, silently cheering them on with their own personal battles. Not your ordinary "super hero" film. Check it out!
Not bad in the ways of action, and there are many cool parts in it. Though the characters are a little flimsy and the plot is more than cliche, it still gives a good show with lots of lights and special effects. There just simply wasn't anything "extraordinary" about it. I'm just glad it wasn't as bad as Van Helsing.
Despite people slating this film, I thought it was brilliant. The characters and storyline were very good. It was a good action packed adventure film with lots of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seats. Hurrah!
On one side, this was actually a good movie that had awesome special effects to boot. But, with so many iconic characters vying for the audiences attention, the movie seemed somewhat "strained" and cluttered.
An ackward cast, some of the actors were well placed, like Sean Connery and Naseeruddin Shah, but the actors in general didn't play up to the roles, not their fault as they were taking direction, but the film's creator's could have held far more true to the actual nature, antics and actual outlook of the characters...
