Plot:
A writer for a greeting card company learns the true meaning of loneliness when he comes home to find his girlfriend in bed with another man.
Next to "Pennies From Heaven", my favorite Steve Martin flick. One of those comedies that seems to have slipped under the radar, but it's really damn funny, full of the same absurd humor of "The Jerk", "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid", and "The Man with Two Brains". Charles Grodin is absolutely hilarious as Martin's even lonelier best friend Larry. The scene where he complains about Michael Landon's hair is priceless. One of those rare movie gems that are a delight to discover.
It's hilarious. Of course, it has its negative side - some of the jokes weren't as successful as the expected - but in the end it's worth it. The story itself is pretty unique and the perfomances of both main and secondary characters are impecable. Really hilarious. But it seems to me that the essence of the film was lost somewhere for some reason. It starts with a REALLY GREAT and UNIQUE story about lonely guys living in a big city and when you realize, you're just watching another silly and pointless movie about love. Too bad. I guess love sells, right?
A funny film trying to relive the successes of 'the Jerk' succeeds in some respects. Charles Grodin is hilarious. The rest of the film is uneven, but it is fun to watch at least once.
A hilarious exaggeration of what it's like to be single. This was Steve Martin's best movie until Roxanne.
Mildly amusing sitcom in which Steve Martin discovers that being a pathetic loser has it's upside. The script was by Neil Simon, which explains it's "Woody Allen lite" feeling. Inoffensive, but rarely hilarious.
