Wow wow and wow, this is one hell of a movie. Its peter Jackson most mature movie since heavenly creatures. This movie is very hypnotic and very stylish and captures the time period so well. The real bonus are the actors , they are all so good, Saoirse Ronan as Susie is wonderful...( read more) and give a powerhouse performance and top trumps to Susan Sarandon as the grandma who give a bit of comic relief in the movie. But its Stanley tucci who play the cold and menacing murderer you will not have seen him like this before. This movie needs to be seen, ok not the happiest subject to watch but it?s the way the story is told and the way peter Jackson as crafted the whole thing, I can not think it could have been any better in any other director?s hand. Well done Mr Jackson.

Fuck me! This has been a real good year for disappointing cinema and talented directors falling flat on their face. The Lovely Bones is a mess of a film. It seems as though Jackson and Walsh have randomly torn pages from the novel to adapt, rather than creating a sensible and dec...( read more)ent motion picture. It jumps awkwardly from scene to scene, with Jackson relishing the fantasy afterlife sequences and blowing his cinematic load over the dark thrillery parts. This results in an incompetent handling of what should be the main focus, the family scenes. I seriously couldn't care for this poorly developed family or the situation they had found themselves in. Tucci gives a good performance, even if Jackson does insist in always covering him with creepy shadows just to make sure we realise how evil he is. Let's hope for a decent remake, as I swear there's a great film in here somewhere.

One of the most highly anticipated films of 2009 turns out to be one of the worst. If truth is beauty and falsity is ugly than The Lovely Bones is a very ugly movie. It's basically a lie, an eye rape calling it self a date. Oh how the mighty have fallen!

Peter Jackson is an amazing director, and visually his adaptation of The Lovely Bones is everything you would imagine it would be. The cast too are amazing, despite being let down by average dialouge and lack of character development for supporting characters. In completely captu...( read more)ring the pure essence of the book though, its a success and well worth watching.

Peter Jackson knows how to make a film. His last two outings were quite over indulgent, but only because he loved the source material. The Lovely Bones goes back so simpler times, more story less action. For the most part, it works. The acting is brilliant, Mark Wahlberg impresse...( read more)d the hell out of me as did Michalka. The surrealist style looked beautiful, like a freeze frame I would love to hang on my wall, he got that style dead on. I wasn't unimpressed at anything and thought it was a superb film.

It was quite slow and confusing at times. Not a great movie.

The novel was lovely. Now let's see if the film adaptation can piece together the barely bare bones of this novel.

I am a huge Peter Jackson fan and he was recently knighted as well.

I really enjoyed this movie. Beautiful and ethereal albeit story evolves around a sad and horrible murder and it's aftermath.
Description here on Flixster says Susie was "brutally raped and murdered". I didn't find they ever pointed out in the movie that she was raped, it was...( read more) only implied? Unless I missed a scene or a detail. I think it was perhaps kind to spare the viewer of most of the horrors of Susie's murder, but I think some more could have been shown or at least told about how she died. Awful as we knew her last moments had been, a tiny bit more detail would've made rest of the movie seem even more 'heavy'.
Rachel Weisz was nice in this, I always enjoy her. Mark Wahlberg (whom I am not sure if I always enjoy) was good too. Susan Sarandon could've been replaced by a less familiar face in my opinion. Stanley Tucci played the bad guy very well. I have to say I am growingly interested in what becomes of the young Saoirse Ronan, she was fine in this and I also remember her from Atonement. All in all nice cast.

    Stanley Tucci: yes!
The whole movie: no. Huge disappointment. Boring and sometimes predictable. But This Mortal Coil's song "Song to the Siren" was lovely almost at the end.
