The Man from Left Field
The baseball-movie cycle of 1992-93 was one of the inspirations for the made-for-TV The Man From Left Field. Looking more like a member of the Manson Family than a Hollywood sex symbol, Burt Reynolds (who also directed) plays Jack, a derelict amnesiac who shambles onto a Florida sandlot and collapses. He is discovered by a ragtag group of kids who'd like to form a baseball team but who have no self-confidence...and no coach.
