The Matrix Reloaded tries to build on the first movie in the series with more of everything. More action, more story, and more special effects. It essentially overloads the viewer with so much of everything so often that it's hard to absorb all the things that are going.

The se...( read more)cond movie in the trilogy is where the plot really gets convoluted and hard to follow. I can't say that the story is as good as in The Matrix because it honestly is not communicated in the most straightforward way. I'm not implying that it's horrible, but the pretty cool parts are almost buried under tons of complicated nonsense.

The action scenes are the most impressive part of the film, but the ones that are most effective are the ones with the least apparent special effects. Parts of the movie look straight out of a video game, and when the level of digital trickery gets to that point then it can be very distracting.

On the plus side, The Matrix Reloaded really does go over the top in sheer scope. The entire freeway sequence, the fights against Agent Smith, and several other scenes are so ambitious and impressive that the occasional obvious CGI can be easily glossed over. I only wish that a way could have been found to relay the plot in a clearer manner.

Now that the Questions 'Is Neo the one? and 'What the hell is the Matrix' have been answered, The Matrix story has lost its edge slightly. A disappointing follow up but still very entertaining.

What can I say, the best thing about this flick is the highway chase sequence without a doubt, supremely awesome action set piece that totally beats everything hands down. The rest of the movie looks first class but is very hard to follow and just gets stupider and stupider. The ...( read more)fights also get tiresome, seeing Reeves do all that slow mo martial arts in time gets boring and we wont mention the City of Zion sequences.

The problem with this film is that there is no way you can understand head or tail of it if you didn't see the first film.

This film has less of a story line and far more fight scenes. In places it is even hard to follow even if you did see The MAtrix and know what it's all a...( read more)bout.

Took a while to warm up, but once it did there were some impressive fight scenes (maybe a few too many, perhaps a little overkill). Some great graphics, special effects and stunts, a few boring parts, but mostly enjoyable.

it is the summum of animation movie I have ever seen

I am not a fan of the Matrix movies but some of the fighting is kind of cool to watch.

Love the first one better but not bad
  • November 11, 2009
I think they put everything they had into the first film and any follow-up or trilogy structure was doomed. They weren't bad films, but they didn't have the charge or the sublime brilliance the original Matrix provided with a teasing, even pace.

Was brilliant other than the fact of adding too much to the already good plot.

David Edelstein, Slate

An ugly, bloated, repetitive movie that builds to a punch line that should have come an hour earlier. full review

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

Eyes will pop, nerves will jangle, thoughts will be provoked and other summer blockbusters will shrink in comparison. But to quote from one of the few cultural touchstones not referenced in this film:... full review

Colin Covert, The Minneapolis Star Tribune

For sheer exhilarating spectacle, The Matrix Reloaded is the film to beat this year. full review

An immensely skillful sci-fi adventure. full review

The thrill isn't gone from the sequel, but the surprise is, and it hurts more than you'd think. full review

It's worth watching, for the great fight scenes, a great car chase and great special effects. Plenty of action and leaves you hanging for the final chapter, you just can't help but want more.

I really enjoyed it, especially the fight with seraph. What is it that drives you Neo? What is the nature of your troubles, and why are you on that path instead of another?

    The "Burly Brawl" was awesome!!

    -whimperwhine- The twiiiiiiiins.
I loved them, and thought that their part was WAY too short-lived.

But all in all one of the best movies that I've seen in a while.

This part is the best of the series. I really enjoyed it. The philosophical issues pose in the movie weren't that hard to understand.

The action scenes were crazy!!! The Merovingian...he needed his bourgeois self taken down a bit *rofl*

i love all of the matrix movies i love the talk about the possibility of another world running ours and sometimes full believe there is a part of this movie that is true. if i could wake from this world to find a world beyond myself i would want to and if keanu was the one God in that world it really would be heaven!
