I had no idea what this film was about, but I suspected it was a crappy B-moive, but I was pleasantly suprised. It's actually an enjoyable film. It was well written, even is the multidimensional alien angle was bit lame. And couldn't you just guess the army would come out of the ...( read more)mist in the end.

i didn't like the end i think it could be better

    Pretty decent monster movie.
An experiment of the army opens the door for some creatures from another dimension which would make Aragog look friendly and the Kraken feel jealous for not having legs. However, the fear and the isolation release more dangerous monsters in the peopl...( read more)e's minds. Even in those of the best of them. Certainly the idea of putting a bullet in your own head or in the head of someone dear to you, is not one of my favorites. The ending scene spreads the mist and leaves the question: 'Why?'.

  • November 7, 2009
It's one of the best Stephen King movies yet, even though the ending is a little surprising!
  • November 6, 2009
This has to be one of the best if not the best horror/thriller film of the 2000's. I like to think of it as a great apocalyptic movie. Its also by far one of the best Stephen King adaptions ever made. It has some very good acting and other good stuff.
  • November 3, 2009
Probably the best horror movie I've ever seen.

The movie from beginning to end was awesome.
Especially the ending, which was a complete shocker. Who would've guessed!

This is basically Night of the Living Dead in a grocery store w/ fog & giant insects. Well there is some giant tentacles but it's all noticeable CGI & lord knows how much I hate GCI. The monsters are great but not scary. What I really like about this movie is the ending. LOL! Epic ending...
  • October 31, 2009
This is another Stephen king book adaption into a movie and I havent read the book but this movie is really good in the horror genre. I love the way they use drama in the setting of horror and monsters. The characters are very interesting and its also interesting to see how these...( read more) people react. The horror scenes are handled very well however the affects are not very good, I cant legitimately criticise that because its low budget. But for a low budget film and the director of the shawkshank redemption this is a great movie.

It was WAY better then what I was expecting.Turned out to be a pretty good movie
  • October 27, 2009
I cried at the end. I didn't see trailers for this movie so it was surprising to see what was in the mist. For me it was a powerful movie with a powerful ending.
  • October 24, 2009
I liked The Mist, but thought it could have been made a lot better. Didn't think much of the CGI, I think it would have been a lot scarier if creature effects had been used. But I hate CGI anyway. I bought the double disc with the colour and B&W versions of the film. I watched th...( read more)e B&W version and thought this really worked in favour of the film. So overall I enjoyed it and would recommend it, but I'd suggest watching the B&W version.

Seems like an homage to Carpenter's "The Fog". But with a downer ending. great story line, some very good special effects. But the ending blew it for me.

what a good flick by written & director frank darabont who work done direct of "the shawshank redemption", "the green mile" and "the majestic" and later who direct this film and also of my favorite! from the novella by stephen king. all the performancing as well except for marcia...( read more) gay harden's character mrs. carmody who is so annoying to me. so good performed by "the punisher" star thomas jane as doing well on this. so since i seen this film and little bit of like 1980/2005 version of "the fog", 2004 "war of the worlds", and 1990 "arachnophobia" that with doing something with creature and something with an disaster. also i got dvd and i seen with an black & white version but i prefer color version is better one.

By the end of this film you'll be hoping for the uplifting times of 28 Days Later...

This Guy Over Here picks this as one of the Best Films of the 2000s
  • October 19, 2009
Frank Darabont is a great director and writer, and I was suprised to find out he would direct something like this. This is a horro in different ways. There are monsters here, but they're not scary, and they look really fake - the special effects weren't so good. The horror aspect...( read more) comes from the nature of the people who are stuck in this supermarket. It shows how desperate some people can get when fear takes over. Some of the themes here are really powerful. The acting's good. Thomas Jane wasn't that great, but Nathan Gamble was excellent as the Billy. The ending is so climatic and it's really tragic. There are some bad elements here, like the way the mist came - that storyline was handled really poorly. But the shock horrors good, and there are moments of blood and gore which should please the horror crowd. It's good with the drama, but it's not a perfect horror film.
  • October 16, 2009
Gaaah!! If it ended like 2 minutes earlier I would so love this movie!
  • October 14, 2009
Sadly a stupid friend of mine spolied the ending for me!Anyway, I guess thats how horrors should be:tense and unpredicatble. The movie really managed to build the tensed atomosphere from the very begining till it reached the peak at the also so tensed ending. The setting was real...( read more)ly interesting and the characters were deep and rounded;a rare thing in horror film but thanks to a brilliant man called Stephen King the charaters and their interactions was the best element in the whole film. The actors delivered well especialy Marcia Gay Harden who played such an annoying character that everyone will hate with a great talent. The effects were okay, could have been slightly better but still good. A horror fan and hater also really should not miss this one.An enjoyable well crafted thriller with some monsters is an appropriate description to say at last.

one movie that was great, but will never watch again, the ending left me in aw
  • October 6, 2009
A strange mist descends over a small town and a motley band of its inhabitants seek refuge in the local supermarket. Based on a *sigh* Stephen King novella (is it that time of year again?) The Mist was written for the screen and directed by Frank "The Shawshank Redemption" Darabo...( read more)nt, and his skillful eye and feel for narrative pacing means that The Mist has a sense of quality missing from many King adaptations. Some of the sequences have just the right amount of tension and some of the encounters with the creatures are genuinely creepy and suspenseful in a way that reminded me of John Carpenter in his hay day. But once again, the Achilles hell is Stephen bloody King himself. The story is shit. The talents of the director and a decent if slightly uninspired set of performances are the only things that obscure the fact. All the ideas are rehashes of familiar old cliches and you can never escape the fact that the creatures are nothing more than badly designed computer generated cartoons. I can enjoy a daft creature feature as long as it has a sense of humour, but King's dour self importance once again means that the film takes itself painfully seriously despite the clearly ludicrous premise. And as far as the famous ending goes, I would also have to point out that if horror is an allegory or has an intelligent sub-text then a comment about futility can be very powerful (as we see in Romero's films) but when its done purely for shock value it is nothing short of empty and meaningless. Kudos to the technical side of things, but Stephen King is nothing but a hack churning out second hand junk and this is yet more proof of the fact.
