Frank Darabont adaptation of another Stephen King book The Mist doesn't even come close to either The Green Mile or The Shawshank Redemption. The plot is overused and some of the explanations given for the events taking place are absolutely absurd and to top all that it has one of the most stupid ending of all times.
Wow, this movie was infuriating! No one was doing what the hell I would have done, and that main character....wow....such a horrible act at the end...he was doing alright till then. The Bible thumper lady got what was coming to her....So sad though, if he would have just waited for 5 minutes.....
Dark, disturbing and perhaps a warning to those using logic. In times of crisis, the religious zealots may end up in charge. If that happens, move to Europe.
I thought that this movie was really really great, and was pretty much on the edge of my seat the entire way through it. However the difference between the 5 star rating I was going to give it and the 1 and a half that it got was the ending. I really think that the ending destroyed the entire movie. I couldn't get the ending out of my head all day, and it was quiet disturbing. So I will say without a doubt that was the worst ending for a movie ever, and because of that I will never actually watch that movie again... Too bad the ending ruined it...
this was a fucked up movie... weird weird weird... the ending was soo stupid and the huge bugs and worm like creatures made it sooo much more stupidier
Not many movies have left me sobbing at the end, but this one really did, kind of, break my heart. Its the right ending for the kind of movie it is... it shows so much human emotion the utter human reaction to such an event. Its just always hard to accept the fury that we all have under our skin.
OMG I love this movie. I haven't read the book yet but I think I should read it. The monsters weren't that scary, and I know they weren't suppose to be the scary part. The movie really made me think that should I stay or go if I was trapped in the store. The ending...well, it was kind of awful...shoot your own son like that, and right after that the rescue came :/
DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT. Ending ruined it for me. They would not give up, and how many gas stations do you think they passed, wouldn't you have at least tried to fill up? Human survival instinct wouldn't have let them give up, giant creatures or not he wouldn't have shot his son in the f***ing head.
Não é dos típicos filmes que seguem sempre os mesmos clichés, pelo contrario, surpreende pelo cuidado em tentar mostrar uma boa linearidade e não se espalha com "as pressas". Bons efeitos, banda sonora, história e final surpreendente. Not the typical HHE (Hollywood Happy Ending)
Wow! A totally enjoyable monster horror movie that doesn't try to be clever, or satirical, or condesending to horror fans. Just interesting characters in a tense situation with cool monsters. This is what I hope for when I pick up a monster horror. Oh, and I guess I have to comment on the ending, since everyone else has. It totally took me by surprise, and left me with an uncomfortable feening in my stomach. Well done!
This movie was cool, but really goddamn annoying. They totally overdid the whole George A. Romero people-not-getting-along shit. Other than that constant annoying bickering crap, it was ok. Oh yeah, the ending is the stupidest ending I have ever seen. All-in-all this movie could have been better in my opinion.
Gets very intense very quickly and stays that way throughout. Drags a little towards the end but for the most part a good scary disaster we're screwed film. William Sadler was a pleasant surprise to find!
At first it was super cheesy at the beginning and the graphics were as cheesy as the latest Stephen King films. BUT it does get serious and emotional towards the end.
film ini kereen buanged..isi film ini bukan cm actionnya aja yg di lyat..tp makna dr kejadiannya itu yg penting bgd..pokoknya lw smua hrs ntn deeh..keey..hihihi
I'm shocked. Royally shocked. This movie was actually fantastic. I might put this as my favorite SCARY movie of last year. (Mainly because I didn't have one, but I was genuinely impressed by this one.)
Now, I have to put this out there right now. If you are going to watch this, get the two-disc edition. On the second disc is a print of the movie in black-and-white. The black-and-white movie is cool as sh*t. The colorized version, while I imagine might have something to it, has significantly less atmosphere than the black-and-white. What I was really amazed by was the amount of attention that went into making the black-and-white "director's" edition. I thought, because it was technically a special feature, that they'd do the bare minimum to make this black and white. Seriously, I thought they would just drop the saturation out of the film and call it a day. Not at all. this is a visually striking movie and I think it only really works in this format.
Okay, now onto the movie. Yes, I liked Shawshank, but I'm not one of those people who's obsessed with it. I thought it was actually a little too sappy for my tastes. I never bothered with The Green Mile. So when I heard that Frank Darabont was behind this third Stephen King incarnation (and it was going to be one of his horror outings), I just had no idea what he was going to do with it. This is the man that made this mediocre story absolutely fantastic. It really reminds me of Romero's Dawn of the Dead. While technically both are horror movies, the scares are incidental to the character drama going on at the same time. This is one of the few times that I see real people deal with something that is far beyond their comprehension in a real, honest way. Sure, Marcia Gay Harden was over-the-top, but she wasn't one of the characters that we were dealing with. She was part of the problem and to judge her by the same standards would be almost unfair.
It's not a perfect movie, by any means. I do think it is the best Stephen King horror adaptation since The Shining. I actually give this more credit because I don't associate the film of The Shining with the book of the same name. This was probably extremely faithful to the original text, unfortunately, down to the lame explanation for all of the events. Personally, I wish this movie went the way of Predator and didn't bother to explain sh*t. But besides that, I thought this was a fantastic movie that was well shot and generally well acted.
