A much-copied premise of a man hunting people he traps on his island, this is pretty much the king though. Good performances, especially from Leslie Banks and some great scenes. Plus it's just over an hour so it never drags or gets boring.
I love great short movies that are straight to the point. this movie was pitch perfect. Leslie Banks reminds me of Vincent Price and Fay Wray is always hawt.
A great movie that in many ways was ahead of its time. Fantastic direction (namely during she ship sinking and swamp scenes) and atmospheric sets steal the show. And of course Fay Wray running around the jungle in her nightgown never hurts. For a movie that's nearly 80 years old it's kind of disturbing and a lot of things that bug me about movies from the 30s didn't really seem to apply here. Leslie Banks was great playing a total nutjob and Joel McCrea was basically the paint-by-numbers hero. It's a nice, quick watch too.
The second most used plot device (boy meets girl is the first) happens to be one of my favorites, Man Vs. Man. The Most Dangerous Game (based upon a short story) is about an eccentric hunter who has hunted every single animal there is to hunt except one. Man. On his tropical island surrounded by dangerous coral reefs he seeks out prey so he can add them to his trophy case. That is until the day he happens to meet the world's most famous big game hunter. This excellent film was shot by the same crew that was shooting King Kong (both films nearly have the same cast) Between takes they would shoot this one. If you want to see where it all started, then this is it!!
joel mcrea is shipwrecked on an island where the evil count zaroff hunts men! also starring fay wray, who was working on merriam cooper's other project at the time, king kong. and this is the one from zodiac. one of the most copied films ever and still pretty damn cool
Yeah, so both me and the Zodiac killer love this film! Big Deal! Classic premise. Whether it be this or Surviving the Game or Hard Target or many of it's ilk, I love the whole "Human Being Hunted" genre. This one is fantastic and really works as a atmosperic gothic horror piece. Great villain too.
For 1932 this film has some pretty disturbing imagry. Decomposing heads on walls and in jars. I expected a little more from this film. Alot of the character decisions are pretty laughable and kinda frustrating. But thats my fault. Its from 1932 and it runs slightly over a hour so they did have alot to cram into the picture. The sets are fantastic though. And Fay Wray is a little hottie.
Overall; its a very enjoyable adventure film that is definatly NOT boring. And The Most Dangerous Game is definatly the most copied film...EVER.
I'm not really into the old 1930's horror/suspense movies. So we watched this and class and I was laughing so hard, I was crying.
One of the guys that were on the ship *getting eaten by a shark*: AlHH, it's got me! Bahaha. So ridiculously funny, but so corny at the same time. It was horribly done, and the worst acting ever, but I suppose, if you were alive in this era, you'd probably love this movie and it'd scare the crap out of you. The short story we read in English class is completely different and is very good.
I haven't seen the newest remake but I've seen a few. Even own one or two. Production values and acting is dated, but I still like this version of the classic human hunting story based on O. Henry's story.
terrible movie very unlike the story theres no girl in the story where'd she come from??? yeah! so theres 1/2 a star but it doesnt even deserve that sorry if you like the movie
A faithful adaptation of the short story, though still not too spectacular of a film. The acting ain't all that great, though I do realize it's only a few years into the sound era when the form of acting we see today is just beginning. The action is dated although still enjoyable. If you enjoy the short story, I suggest checking this out just for the hell of it. It's simply just a flawed movie.
The Most Dangerous Game is a classic, one of the first talkies to get pictures moving after five very static years following the birth of sound. The plot finds resourceful hero Joel McCrea and heroine Fay Wray being hunted on the island of the...
This great black and white movie makes it easy to teach the use of lighting to create mood and develop characterization. Based on the short story by Richard Connell, it's well worth seeing!
