August 15, 2006With Allie ENGAGED, they sleep TOGETHER AGAIN! And what does Allie say afterwards? "Let's do that again!"
Didn't the thought of her adoring finace ever cross her mind?!
How can I enjoy a movie with a stupid plotline and an ever more stupid lead female character?!
And we're STILL not through! No no, when Allie answers the door in nothing but a blanket, she has the NERVE to pout to her mother "So I guess you think I'm a tramp." *WHAT?!!!!*
While I understand the old Allie had dementia, Gena Rowlands was just so dowdy in this, she irritated me. Why was Noah introduced to her as Duke? Why didn't she clue in that the character in the story had the same name as she did? And did they HAVE to add the sunset scene? I gagged at that.
Sure, yes, yes, this is a sweet story about overcoming class differences, and that love can create miracles... but this could have been so much better done that I was beyond disgusted. The more I think about this movie the less I rate it. -

Oh, where oh where to start.
First off, every girlie girl out there is probably going "HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE THE NOTEBOOK! IT IS LIKE THE BEST MOVIE EVER!"
Uh, no, it's not. It's stupid, clichéd at every corner, and although the acting--in particular Rachel McAdams--is good/great, there are so many holes in this, I'm not sure if I can even cover them all.
First of all, I didn't like how Allie is snobby to Noah, and then when he DOES get to be with her, he taunts her and uses peer pressure ("I thought you were free") to lay in the middle of the road.
After they're a couple, they sleep together! Back in 1930something that almost never happened! In a time when people actually had morals, putting that in is just stupid, promiscuous and a bad example. We have enough teen pregnancies without endorsing the risk.
They hit and scream at each other *REPEATEDLY* throughout the movie.
Allie whines why Noah never wrote her... did the thought of writing HIM never cross HER mind? -
