The Odd Couple II

Bernard Hughes, Christine Baranski, Jack Lemmon, Jean Smart, Jonathan Silverman

The movie finds former roommates Oscar (Walter Matthau) and Felix (Jack Lemmon) reluctantly reuniting for the wedding of Oscar's son to Felix's daughter. When they get sidetracked in California, the r...( read more  read more... )oad-movie formula unleashes the comedic chemistry of Lemmon and Matthau (which alone makes the movie worthwhile), but it's too casual to match the original's depth or dramatic foundation. Simon and Grumpy director Howard Deutch could have deepened the Oscar-Felix relationship to make it funnier and more emotionally involving, but instead they've played it safe with some good laughs in the kind of sketch comedy that Nichols would avoid. Simon's capable of much better than this, but Lemmon-Matthau fans will have a good time anyway. --Jeff Shannon

It has more humour than the first, but appeals more to a modern audience. And I love it for that! This is a film worth owning.

If you dislike Walter Matthau or Jack Lemmon (don't ask me how that is possible), avoid the film, for they are in every scene. If you like them (I know...( read more) I do), then this is a must - see!

Sophisticated, but funny. Deep, but plays on the light side of life. What's not to like about this Odd Couple?

I laughed so hard, at this film, that I thought I would die. These two actors, always played well, onscreen and off. They were also great friends, in real life, and I believe that it shows thru, even in this film.

I love Walter Matthau's brand of dry humour.

After 17 years apart, Oscar and Felix are back together. Oscar's son, played by Jonathon Silverman, is getting married which is how these two opposites get connected again. This was mildly funny. I thought that the "Grumpy Old Men" films were better but it was nice to see thes...( read more)e two incredible actors getting more work in their later years. Not a must see but a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
