Despite its obviously low budget (some of the actors wear the same costumes throughout the picture), The Oklahoman is a sturdy, solid vehicle for sturdy, solid Joel McCrea.The star plays frontier doctor John Brighton, who decides to stay in his adopted Oklahoma town after his wife dies in childbirth. Doc Brighton runs afoul of town bosses Cass and Mel Dobie (Brad Dexter, Douglas Dick) when he champions the cause of victimized Indian farmer Charlie Smith (Michael Pate).
