Plot: Jean-Claude Van Damme may never have risen to the top ranks of action stars, but his movies have been consistently enjoyable--partly because they don't take themselves too seriously. In The Order...( read more read more... )I>, Van Damme plays a thief of religious artifacts whose archeologist father has found the lost scripture of a mysterious religious order. When the old man is kidnapped, Van Damme soon finds himself cruising around the twisty streets of Jerusalem, getting into dynamic kickboxing battles while disguised as a Hasidic Jew. With the help of a beautiful Israeli cop (Sofia Milos), Van Damme uncovers a plot within the religious order that leads to secret catacombs beneath the holy city. Silly? Perhaps, but directed with vitality and surprising wit. Van Damme is trim and energetic, Milos is engaging, and a cameo by Charlton Heston (!) only adds to the general atmosphere of spunky fun. --Bret Fetzer

More exciting and the best non-stop action scenes of Jean-Claude Van Damme who's on run around at the city of Israel, I like that.

Two years after 20th Century Fox released its melodramatic disaster film Titanic in 1953, Walter Lord's meticulously researched book A Night to Remember surprised its publishers by becoming a phenomenal bestseller. Lord had an intuition...

I didn't hate this movie. I really thought that I would, but I didn't. The acting is a bit shallow and the character development is very lacking and the plot line is thin (as well as some trite , overused, stolen lines, ie Nietzsche: "Sometimes when you look into the abyss it looks back into you." and they didn't even have the good sense to quote the man), but still I could not hate this film. Why? Because it brought up some real brain food for me. It speaks to the Church's influence over not just this realm, but the realm beyond and how angered they might get by having thier authority undermined and circumvented. Therefor, in my mind, it speaks to the dangers of institutionalized religion (a subject near and dear to my heart). There are some cool special effects and scenery and, quite frankly, despite the fact that I would have liked knowing the characters a bit more intimately it did not detract from the point of the film. Witness the Sin-Eater...and I will stop there so as not to be a spoiler. If you are looking for a thriller with a few moments of horror/thrill (nothing too gory though not for the kids), some nice twists, and something to think about if you are open to it then you might want to consider this movie as a rental.

Man, Charlton Heston get's a bullet in the midsection, and Van Damme's all coked out spouting, "Heeeeyy Dad!" I love this movie.

Not one of his better flicks. Teamed with the religious fanatic storyline it didn't particularly work for me.

It's hard to believe the academy hasn't noticed the years of hard work put in by this tireless actor. Perhaps a lifetime achievement award is in the future. The best part may have been Charlton Heston's stunning portrayl of an archeologist. Words just don't suffice.

Jesus! Well close, Charlton Heston actually in a very short lived role, rather tasty policewoman tho and Arnold Schwarzenegger's stunt double by the looks of it

I've always been a fan of Jean-Claude van Damme, so I've been mad that his recent movies haven't got theatrical releases, while the latest Adam Sandler and the current breed of gross-out teen movies have. I'd much rather see van Damme on the big screen than another teen movie. Although THE ORDER is far from his best or my favorite of his films (those would be HARD TARGET, SUDDEN DEATH, MAXIMUM RISK, and LEGIONNAIRE), it's still pretty good, even if it does drag in some places and has some hard-to-understand accents. But you can understand enough to know the basic idea of the movie, so it doesn't really matter. Written by van Damme, the story moves had a decent pacer, but the direction could have been a little tighter in some scenes. Van Damme is particularly good, and though it's not his best acting (that would be MAXIMUM RISK), it's better than some of his earlier ones.

Plot Summary: Van Damme plays Rudy whose father, Oscar is an archaeologist. His father goes to Israel. When his father disappears...
