Critic Reviews

  • Richard Roeper, Ebert & Roeper

I think the performances are really good.

  • Claudia Puig, USA Today

    [An] oversimplified, overheated mediocre melodrama.

  • Philip Marchand, Toronto Star

[A] vulgarized portrayal of the Tudor court.

  • Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal

After covering much of its ground at a stylish canter, The Other Boleyn Girl finishes at a plod.

  • Bruce Newman, San Jose Mercury News

Chadwick and Morgan have cooked up a potboiler, the sort of thing that might have been fun to watch with Bette Davis and Joan Crawford as the Boleyn sisters, while Charles Laughton lasciviously eyed the backs of their necks as Henry.

Excellent period drama that tells a perfect and dead on story of Anne (Natalie Portman) & Mary Boleyn (Scarlett Johansson) as they both seduce King Henry VIII (Eric Bana) in this dramatic & tragic film masterpiece.

Stylish and well directed, superb costumes and strong performances, the movie stand out to be truly enjoyable and highly dramatic.

Awfully miscast - a slim, dark, handsome Eric Bana as Henry VIII? The Boleyn sisters weren't much better with their varying accents. And the costumes were so OTT. Some nice Tudor period sets, but there's not much to recommend this movie.

Wow! I never thought I could see Natalie Portman as so vicious and vindictive. She did an awesome job. Very twisted story, one I had never knew about before, but have become very intrigued to learn more. I liked it!
