After leading the USSR to a gold medal (and victory over the U.S.A.) at the '88 Seoul Olympics, Marciulionis and Sabonis were poster boys for the Soviet sports machine. Four year later, after the fall of the Soviet Union, they emerged as symbols of democracy, willing newly-independent Lithuania to the medal stand in Barcelona. The film documents the Lithuanians' experiences behind the Iron Curtain, where elite athletes were subjected to the vagaries of Communist rule. -- (C) Official Site

Critic Reviews
-
Tom Long, Detroit News
You don't have to give a hoot about basketball to enjoy this movie. This is a movie about identifying with, admiring and responding to achievement in any form.
-
Dave Hoekstra, Chicago Sun-Times
It is a dream fulfilled.
-
Colin Covert, Minneapolis Star Tribune
Here's a twist on the plucky underdog sports movie. The Other Dream Team adds rock 'n' roll and eastern European history to the rah-rah mix.
-
Joe Williams, St. Louis Post-Dispatch
If you root for documentaries with heart, "The Other Dream Team" is a slam dunk.
-
Peter Hartlaub, San Francisco Chronicle
Adding detailed historical context, the quirky feel-good story becomes a tragedy and a lesson. And that makes the victories resonate even more.
