OH MY GOD!!!! HOW DID I PUT OFF SEEING THIS FOR SO LONG!!??!?!!?
Simply put, if you like horror this is a must see! I have got to hand it to the Spanish, they know how to make horror films, and never since the Sixth Sense have I been so shocked by an ending!!! Plus, the tension created in this movie is just freaking insane!!!! Nicole Kidman is perfect, and the whole gimmick of the kids being afraid of sunlight so the whole house is dark is genius!!!!! I will watch this movie again and again, god its amazing!!!! -
I loved the setting and plot of this story. Nicole Kidman looked beautiful in this film and the twist in the end was fantastic.

The Others is a frightfully dull movie, very slow moving and nothing much happens throughout the whole movie. Nicole Kidman's character is quite possibly one of the most annoying for a long time. Another follower in the boring Sixth Sense run a waste of time in my opinion. Save your time watch paint dry, give The Others a miss.

Rated: (PG-13)
Directed by: Alejandro Amenábar
Genres: Horror, Mystery & Suspense
Casts : Nicole Kidman, Fionulla Flanagan
"Death of a loved one can lead people to do the strangest things.."
- Fionula Flanagan as Mrs. Mills -
A woman named Grace retires with her two children to a mansion on Jersey, towards the end of the Second World War, where she's waiting for her husband to come back from battle. The children have a disease which means they cannot be touched by direct sunlight without being hurt in some way. They will live alone there with oppressive, strange and almost religious rules, until she needs to hire a group of servants for them. Their arrival will accidentally begin to break the rules with unexpected consequences.
I don't recommend horror movies since it provides anything but meaningful. To certain religious beliefs, they might find it offensive. This is important. Measure yourself, hold on to whatever you're devoted to and take it simply as an entertainment.
The Others is a well-photographed movie which plays with your imagination and toys your adrenaline. Director Amenabar came up with a smart plots. He knows the right button to push. Instead depicting blood and gore, all the fright and suspenses are mostly accomplished through the cinematography. Kidman brought the performance exactly like what we could ask for.
I wish I was dumber. If I was dumber, I would give this movie four and a half stars for that nasty surprise. In fact, I am a writer myself and I've wrote stories with twisted ending. I guess I've outsmarted the director as well as some other viewers. Four stars for the impressive atmosphere, general idea, and to appreciate the female lead.
A GREAT film. Offensive, though.

Entertaining. Not scary (like most ghost films), but had an unguessable ending that made it enjoyable.
-
Eerie period piece complete with a spine chilling twist at the end that will leave you with immense satisfaction.

Not the worst movie I've ever seen, but I've seen worse. Not scary by any means, and not the best performance by Nicole Kidman. My opinion is you should avoid this at all cost.

-
A really diffrent side of horror, this movie excels in all.. starting from Nicole plays as disturbed mother to Fionnula playing a witty and mysterious house keeper, this movie maintain its pace and last, twist.. i enjoy it alot, though some lame scene, between here and there make it 4 star movie.
One of those movie which get me goose bumps!
8/10. -
A classicly well-made film. All actors here give a very well-done performance, and the cast fits well together.
The storyline is about a family of four Englishpeople, two of which are young chlidren, who have moved into a very grand old home on a lovely section of country in Britain, just outside of a small town. The father, Charles [Christopher Eccleston], goes off to war (WWII), leaving his young wife and photosensitive chlidren -- who will die if exposed to direct sunlight for too long -- behind.
One day, the servants vanish from the house, leaving Grace [Nicole Kidman] mindboggled. She plans to put out an add for help, but a band of three caretakers arrives "on the offchance" that service might be needed. She hires the three, and they become her company.
Grace is very, very stern with the help, however, as well as her children. She is a very firm Christian who takes the Bible for literal in every way, so when her daughter, Anne [Mann], begins to speak of ghosts and intruders within the house, Grace will have no mercy for such blasphemous lies.
But what will happen when Grace is personally acquainted with unexplainable happenings in her home?
"Mummy's gone mad. Just like... before."
An excellent thriller with a completely unwarranted twist to finish it off. You never saw what was coming.
Not exactly a horror -- no gore whatsoever, just eerie, "ghosty" happenings that keep you on the edge of your sofa cushion.

A little dreary, but the surprise was good for the movie. I figured it out about halfway through, though. The plot seemed like a copy of Sixth Sense.

Nicole Kidman channels Grace Kelly and the results are extraordinary. Movie is a real throwback to the classic age of hollywood filmmaking.
-
Great creepy spookfest from Pedro Alomodovar, this one featuring an icily cold performance from the queen of ice and style, Nicole Kidman.

Saw it by mistake, actually. I bought Spiderman but the girl in the store put the wrong movie in the case. I'm glad I gave this movie a chance though, because it turned out to be better than Spiderman! Good story, suspense, uncertainty even from the viewer's p.o.v. (which is unusual these days), lots of dark ambiance, and a really good plot twist at the end.

an ok movie... not scary though... hated it until I watched it from the eyes of the ppl actually living in the house rather than thru kidman's eyes

Wow! This is the best horror movie! I felt like a dumb and felt cheated throughout this movie as it's getting to the end. I'm not going to spoil it here. The Others is really creepy and very smart! We are given hints at throughout the movie, yet our eyes still blind. At the end of the movie, we are told what is really happening. "This house is ours.." A stepping stone for Nicole Kidman, beside the Moulin Rouge. The cleverest horror movie. It is unlike any other cheap horror movie. Which scares us through music. The Others is not. The plot is basically general: it is about haunted house. But this movie isn't like any other cheap haunted house movies. What makes it different is the way it is performs. The setting, the acting, the dialogues. I highly recommend you to watch it.

I am still weondering why I haven't seen this movie before.
A brilliant and scary ghost movie like no other, with a terrific performance by Nicole Kidman and a shocking ending.
Maybe as good as The Sixth Sense -
An extremely chilling film. Even watching it the second time, it is still creepy, tense and frightening, with death and fear lurking in every corner of Nicole Kidman's rambling house. One to watch with someone else!

"Creepy and good, this is one of Kidman's best performance in her career and the ending was a pretty good and unexpected twist that had me shocked and guessing".
-
Freaking awesome movie! The ending still sends chills down my spine. Superb acting and pacing, this is one of the better ghost stories in history.
