palm beach awesome.........
Fantastic movie!!!!! Loved every minute of the movie!!! Claudette Colbert is amazing in this. Joel McCrea is wonderful too!!! An adorable movie that I would love to watch again!!!
It's has quite a few very charming moments but it's annoyingly dated in it's logic. The characters are pretty likeable but their reason for deceptions are more than a bit shady.
Robert Dudley owns every scene he's in. Many solid LOL exchanges between the main players.
hilarious if a little heartless. colbert makes a charming gold digger. good stuff on the foibles of the idle rich though the ending is terribly contrived. still, it's sturges and stellar screwball. he burned like a comet in 40's hollywood
Preston Sturges was among the very first writer/directors in Hollywood and during the war years he made plenty of masterpieces. His ear for dialogue was remarkable and the comedic performances he managed to get out of his actors is priceless. The Women in his films always tended ...( read more)

preston sturges brought one of the last go-rounds of the screwball genre to the screen with this fast-paced 1942 release. colbert plays toni, a woman who feels that in order to help her husband, she has to leave him and find a rich man to marry. it sounds weird but it works becau...( read more)
Who needs prozac when you have Preston Sturges. As light as meringue but still delighfully whimsical story of a woman leaving her struggling husband architect, convinced that they will be better off apart so she can find a rich sugar daddy to somehow support them as 'brother and ...( read more)
I like watching this old movie, especailly when the married couple was pretending to be brother and sister and the way they interacted with the other man and women that wanted them for thereselves.
"a frank, unsentimental view of the war...."
At first I was happy.
"...between the sexes".
And there it all went...
a true calssic, very funny and creative. Well acted, and has some of the best quotes ever!
Although a good comedy, Colbert was better in "It Happened One Night" and I thought "The Lady Eve" was a much funnier Preston Sturges creation.
This is my all time favorite Claudette Colbert film. The director, Preston Sturges did a perfect job of filming this story of a lady that is playing a role of a wealthy lady.....this is such a comedy gem that will get you to laugh for sure. As well as one of my favorite comedies....( read more)
A woman decides to leave her husband to swindle men for their money because he doesn't make enough for rent.
This movie is soo bright and imaginative! You will smile the whole way through!
A dated "classic." Tries to be funny, but isn't. Mostly is just extremely annoying and filled with humor of the lowest common denominator. Stunted storyline, almost like a collection of skits; it has an especially dumb ending. Filled with annoying, boring characters. Pales in co...( read more)
Insanity. Screwball comedy - romance at it's least romantic and best. Can we all give it up for Preston Sturges? He pretty much rocks.
Joel MaCrea was sooo under-rated as a comic actor and this helps prove it! Sturges does some of his best work on this!
this isnt real. its so fun tho everyone does a good job and joel mcrae doesnt getany good lines though :-( if u like these movies ull like this. rudy vallee is so funny this part was written r him i saw and mary astor is funny too. its fun.
Preston Sturges reunites with Joel McCrea one year after his masterwork Sullivan's Travels, presenting us with another savvy, offbeat road movie. The Palm Beach Story finds Joel's character pursuing his wife after she bolts to find a millionaire to marry. Her natural charm and fe...( read more)
rich in screwball charm, high in technical comedic detail, a gem of a film and a classic look at the battle of the sexes in a time where sex had no place anywhere save this very unique and amusing film
