Not my usual movie choice, but it had great visuals, acting, and direction. I kept wanting the faun to go apeshit on somebody though.

It's one of those films that grabs you and doesn't let go. Very well done, a true film for the ages.

This movie screams: MAKE FILMS to anyone interested in telling stories.

The cinematography is hands down one of the finest use of camerawork in film's history. Creative and inspiring as all hell, this movie kicks ass. If you haven't seen this, do yourself a favor and treat you... ...( read more )

Wow! I went in with high expectations, and I wasn't disappointed. No senseless gore at all.

The best part of the movie is that it always leaves reality up to the viewer. Is Pan really just a figment of Ofelia's imagination? If he is, how did she get into her stepdad's be... ...( read more )

A beautifully enchanting movie, filled with magic and mystery but also giving an insight into the cruel fascist regime in Italy. You follow a girl's elegant fantasy (or alternate life?) while seeing the struggle of rebels versus the military. Even after the movie is over, you d... ...( read more )

A haunting, but beautifully conceived mix of fantasy and reality that is like no other film released in 2006 - or any other year. full review

Colin Covert, The Minneapolis Star Tribune

Pan's Labyrinth is beautifully shot and designed, but it's the acting that makes it a remarkable emotional journey. full review

Amy Biancolli, Houston Chronicle

Pan's Labyrinth plays with dark magic, a hideous enchantment spun with grief and torment. It is emotionally devastating and sensuously rich: Details are as sharp as the ching of a straight-edge razor,... full review

David Edelstein, New York Magazine

His palette here is deep-toned, with bottomless blacks and supersaturated oranges and blues -- as if the Walt Disney of Pinocchio had collaborated with Goya. full review

Claudia Puig, USA Today

Pan's Labyrinth artfully fuses a war film with a family melodrama and a fairy tale. The result is visually stunning and emotionally shattering. Though graphically violent in parts, it still manages t... full review

It is, I suspect, a film to return to, like a country waiting to be explored: a maze of dead ends and new life. full review

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

Pan's Labyrinth, horrific and heartfelt in the way it sees the trauma of war through the eyes of a little girl, is some kind of great movie. full review

A.O. Scott, The New York Times

Pan's Labyrinth is a political fable in the guise of a fairy tale. Or maybe it's the other way around.

Marcy Dermansky, About.com

Guillermo del Toro's vision has created a film that will last: an enduring fairytale that resonates and offers new interpretations with every viewing. full review

I Loved this movie! It had great special effects! I do think that there was a little too much violence! (of course I really didn't mind it) If you would like to see a really great fantasy movie! This is it! It is my favorite! I think it had a happy ending because the girl went with her parents instead of staying with that evil Stepfather (who died anyway) I think that she was a little stupid because she ate a grape after that faun told her not too, but I do think the guy at the table who put his eyes in his hands was awesome!!! THIS IS A MUST SEE MOVIE!

    Pretty underwhelming..
The Spirit of the Beehive (which influenced this) and Ivan's Childhood both do much better jobs at portraying the inner world of children during war.
