An exceptional adaptation in terms of both the novel and the musical.

The cast was very pleasing; especially Emmy Rossum. Choosing an actress close to the character's own age was a good move. Usually, the role would be filled by an experienced actress in her late twenties, but 1...( read more)7 - year - old Rossum is fresh - faced and inexperienced, echoing the character's own situation. It's hard to believe that this beautiful young lady concurrently starred in 'The Day After Tomorrow'.

I'm a Lloyd - Webber fan, so the music was a set hit for me. As mentioned before, the cast did a very good job. I definitely prefer Rossum and Butler to Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford.

That said, the film, though excellently presented, can be a bit overdramatic. If you're annoyed by swooning and dramatic pauses (not to mention operettas - I can't believe the number of people who complained 'But all they did was sing!'), then you'd be best off watching something else. But if you appreciate good visuals and good singing, then this one's for you.

What an amazing joy ride. The cast was wonderful, they hit them all on the nail. The performances are very memorable and I was very surprised about some of them. Who knew some of them could sing like that? Emmy is so stunning with talent, what a dangerous combination. Butler...wo...( read more)w...the whole package, love him. Wilson was great also. I was very amazed and loved it!

visually stunning musical epic. however there's nothing more to relish than the visuals. even minnie drivers part is boring in it. the songs are all similar at best

It's sort of like the shot-for-shot remake of Psycho. What's the point? This is just a clumsy, tedious, and altogether inferior version of the great Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

Tragic unrequited love. How sad. I feel bad for the phantom. Even though half his face is scarred he's still kind a hot.

The fantastic sets, costumes, art direction and cinematography make for a wonderful visual spectacle, even though the songs are not altogether great and Butler is a terrible singer.
