Fantastic film. Akin to Schindler's List because of the subject matter, but this film all about one family and one man is powerful stuff to behold.

A powerful, moving film that dazzles with downright beautiful cinematography and a harrowing performance from Adrien Brody. A very compelling WWII film about the struggle to survive in the Warsaw Ghetto.

One of the most powerful true stories I have seen. This movie will keep you glued from the beginning all the way to the end; wondering, hoping that this great pianist will make it through one of the most greatest depression in history.

first time I read the title and saw the poster I tought that I would see many sound of musics and see Adrian's struggling to get his chance to playing piano back, but I was wrong. Maybe they should change the title or the poster

Phenomenal story of the life of Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish pianist who survived the Holocaust. Adrien Brody gave an excellent performance with the help of the chilling soundtrack and unique directing of Roman Polanski.

It's hard to describe this film. The first hour is almost unbearable. I don't have the words to describe the horrific events we see. Overall, it is a testament to human survival.

Now, I watched this in a History class. Okay so it would be a little annoying with chavvy little shits taking the piss and talking the whole way through but yah know. =P

The film starts off with a family in Poland during the beginning of WW2. The Nazis have invaded and are sending the Jews into the ghettos. After time, the Jews get sent to the concentration camps and he survives because the Jewish police officer helps him out.

He moves into Warsaw and does building work for the Nazis. But he escapes and moves around with people helping him along the way.

It's incredibly sad and if it makes me this sad and emotional just watching an acted out movie, then I definetely wouldn't be able to survive at that time.

A masterpiece and Adrien Brody was amazing. Awesome actor.

Adrien Brody gives one of the most heartbreaking, intense, beautiful performances I've ever seen.

And the movie is simply extraordinary: it gives a breath of fresh air into Holocaust movies.

    Amazing!

A beautiful and such a powerful film! It has got a strong script, an excellent direction and such a splendid production design with brilliant characters! This is Polanski's strongest and personally felt film ever to me. Though it has gote some inevitably comparisons with Schindler's List, Roman Polanski is still very different, it's more personal with a great deal of passion. A near masterpiece! Truly my compliments to Adrien Brody, he's performances were just brilliant. It's just memorable with Adrien Brody's superb talent!
There is no denying, this film is just ingenious!

Touching, awe-inspiring and exciting drama of a jew trying to desperately flee his homeland from the invading nazis in World War 2. No description can do this movie justice. It must be seen. Adrien Brody shines once again as the true-story based polish Wladyslaw Szpilmand.

    Photobucket

This is one of my all time favourite films. This is a really, really tense. This film is alot like Schindler's List because of all the Jews murders and the taking over of the Warsaw but when Wladyslaw is on the loose trying to escape Warsaw it is a bit like Children Of Men. He was trying to look for shelter, food and to stay as safe as possible just like in Children Of Men. When I heard that Adrien Brody won the Best Actor oscar in 2002, I was quite surprised that he won it, but when I watched it, I thought he definately deserved it. With his performance, it wasnt just the speaking in his performance but the way he was starving and how desperate he looked for shelter and food. I would watch this film over and over again. This is a masterpiece. In my mind this film should have won the Best Picture Oscar instead of Chicago. It was really well directed by Roman Polanski too. When you see Wladyslaw playing the piano it brings alot of brightness into such a depressing and masterful film. Its like it brings hope into the world. Well personally it gives me courage.

Incredible film, Adrien Brody is absolutely phenomenal as Wladyslaw Szpilman. I'm used to Polanski films being unnerving and upsetting in a supernatural or hallucinatory sense, but he manages to capture the horrors of World War II in much the same style, and its incredibly effective. Highly reccomended.

a person survives the holocaust due to his talents. schindlers list focused on the misery of other people, and a person trying to help others, while this movie is focused around a person surving
    hunger, etc etc.

Holy Cow! This was an awesome movie. Super well done. It was sad and a little bloody, but that's what war is and it depicts it very well. It showed some of the trials of a Jew and his family and what a lot of them had to go through in WWII. It was great!

Slow and fluently paced. Brilliant and expressive performance by Adrien Brody whose absolute transformation from a sprucely dressed pianist to a ragged wistful soul brings you on an intense journey back to the 1940s Warsaw Ghetto.

If it wasn't for some sequences that I think were unnecessary, I would give it easily 5 stars out 5. Everything else is perfect.

Amazing. Roman Polanski really shined as a director in this amazing movie about Wladyslaw Szpilman. It sends us a powerful message about no matter how much a person or group of people can TRY to bring you down. Its your soul, spirit, motivation, determintation and will, that in the end will save you.

Uneven look at Jewish persecution by the Nazis. Adrien Brody won an Oscar but there have been many greater performances.
