1980's Saturday evenings sat in front of the telly with my Gran and my dog watching the ITV matinee movie. Fond memories! Would be closely followed by Blockbusters and The A-Team! Perfect.

without the excellent special effects of the modern version but more than making up for it with a highly claustrophobic atmosphere, ernest borgnine and gene hackman are apt lead while the screaming totty is also apt support in this must've been great for its time disaster reel

i love that they tried to make a preacher the hero, but when that preacher is an arrogant man with bad theology it doesnt work. as the hero, hackman's character was not likeable at all, and i never found myself caring much for any of the characters in the film. decent effects f...( read more)

great about dealing with tragedies amidst fun times... this version was better than the recent one... Shelley Winters was fantastic holding her breath - I appreciate this as a fellow swimmer...

Movie truly drives home how skinny fat people can be underwater. So skinny that they have a heart attack later.
