I remember watching this as a little girl and being infatuated with it. The charm wore off as I grew older; but every now and then I enjoy seeing it again. The sword fight between Westley and Inigo has always stuck in my mind; and been a particular favorite scene in this film. However, I don't agree with Inigo seeking revenge by killing the six fingered man, however he did, and I can't do anything to change it, except skip that scene, not a favorite of mine. It's not that I'm squeamish, after watching the Lord of the Rings and seeing 'things', but it just struck an annoyance cord in me. The battle of wits is another part I don't mind watching more than once. It's interesting and a bit satisfying to watch that short little man die laughing.
TRUE LOVE DOESNT HAPPEN EVERYDAY. That's why if we're lucky enough to find it, we have to fight for it, never let it go. That's basically what this film is all about. But wait, this is not just a love story. This is also a decent adventure film, and a great comedy. The main characters are very likeable, the dialogue is witty and kinda silly. Buttercup's and Westley's love is very beautiful and honest. I liked the part where someone said that few people ever find love. Being this a kids movie, i was surprised that they didnt paint everything as perfect and love bein at every corner. The sword fights were pretty decent as well. All the time i was watchin this film I had a big smile on my face. I dont know if it was because of the movie or because of something else.... But overall, i enjoyed this film. I think if i had seen this a while back, i had not liked as much as I did today. A very good movie indeed!
Hmm, another one to add to the list of Isolde and Tristan and Romea&Juliette eh. This movie has it all, fencing, giants, witches, love and tragedy and a happy ending. I rather enjoyed it.
A fairy tale with a difference. Entertaining, funny, romantic, action packed, heapes of cool characters, throw in two people in love and you have a great film.
A very good family masterpiece. The swordfights were awesome. Robin Wright-Penn was brilliant as Buttercup and so was the rest of the cast - Cary Elwes, Chris Sarandon, Wallace Shawn and Andre The Giant. I loved watching him in the WWF (at the time he was still alive.) His character were two different sorts of people really - one when he tries to help and be nice but then he likes to fight and break things. But one disappointment I thought that there would be a lot more fantasy to it. There still was though but I expected more.
Amazing. It was a total love story that I completely adored.<33
I wished I was her.
"Every time he said,'As you wish'.He was really saying,'I love you'."
A great cast. Its witty and entertaining through out. For my taste you don't get a much better kids film. However it doesn't have the qualities needed to stand the test of time.
It was cute, funny, quirky and very enjoyable! But, some of the parts didn't make sense, some got a little boring and some just seemed like they were added in because the writer got stuck and didn't know what else to do. And sometimes I agreed with the little boy, "No more kissing parts!"
This movie was obviously set towards younger kids so I understand its slight cheesieness (cute cheesieness though lol) However the fighting scene between the Spaniard and the six fingered guy had some pretty graphic violence and languagge, at least for little kids. It just really surprised me thats all, it didn't seem to fit in...
Speaking of the Spaniard, Inigo, there are some things in this movie that I really disliked. Firstly, Inigo satisfies his revenge by killing the six fingered man (making him much less of a hero than Wesley who never killed anyone) Its not that I liked the six fingered man, its just that it makes it seem like revenge is okay. That is unacceptable in a kids movie, or any movie. Secondly, Buttersup suggests suicide, also unacceptable.
For the most part, I enjoyed this movie, it made me smile and I always love that :) And I got to admit, Wesley is pretty darn cool!
A sort of half-satirical ultra-tame dumb fantasy story with lame characters I don't give a crap about being read by a grandfather to a young Fred Savage. Woo, sign me up. What on earth was/is the major appeal of this movie?
"Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father prepare to die."
I love this movie. It's one of those great fractured fairy tales that was done right.
soo funny, i love the satire. he first time i saw it, i thought it was stupid gone wild, but i appreciate it better for the satirical qualities i missed in the first. gotta love the rhyming giant.
Ok. Extremelly overrated, but I liked ALL of it: story and plot, storytelling, rhythm, characters, humor andthe fight scenes. Triumphant (but cute) Reiner :)
Robin Wright Penn was really cute in this movie but I think he wasn't such a great actor. He talked like a cartoon character or he was mocking his character. Lovely tale of love, and yes, I think it is a kissing movie. I found this very overated. It wasn't THAT good.
The dialog is what keeps me coming back to this. Some funny lines in this film. Makes up for some of the bad sets and the much laughable Rodents Of Unusual Size. I have to applaud the absence of special effects where they could have used some (Rodents Of Unusual Size). Although this was made in 1987, I think they could have made those things look a little better. It just adds to the silliness of that scene I guess. I'd have to say the dialog in the prelude to the sword fighting scene between Inigo and Westley is my favorite part.
