Critic Reviews

  • Bruce Westbrook, Houston Chronicle

Screenwriter Gina Wendkos, working from Meg Cabot's novel, resorts to monotonous movie clichés: almost uniformly cruel classmates and a callous, cacophonous mob of media jackals.

  • Ed Park, Village Voice

A modest, enjoyable fairy tale that easily outcharms its animated stablemates of the past decade.

  • Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle

A sweet movie from a sweet director.

  • Joe Baltake, Sacramento Bee

    Squeaky clean and rather sweet.

  • Jan Stuart, Newsday

Hardly a cross-dressing update of My Fair Lady. But in its own blanded-down fashion, it captures just enough of that show's metamorphic zest to make you wish it were.

A fun and wishful film about a geek that becomes a princess. Brilliant in the way that every teenage girl can identify with Mia in some way. If you need a pick up then watch it.

Once in a while, I enjoy a good, cliched teen comedy. In honor of the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton taking place today, I shall review "The Princess Diaries". This is the film that made Oscar-nominee, future Catwoman, Anne Hathaway a star. Anne plays… More
