What a strange film. It edges toward some pretty bleak stuff. Then it steps back and laughs, like an office slacker. It never finds much of a groove. Elements of conventional madcap comedy butt against more indie-ready scenes of relationship dysfunction, and the end result is bot...( read more)h frustrating and interesting. Conrad has the humanity part down. Even if his little film is something of a mess, that counts for something.

A delightfully different pace of comedy. I didn't think it all of it was laugh out loud funny but it constantly kept a smile on my face.

The Promotion is the story of Doug Stauber (Sean William Scott), who is an assistant manager at a grocery store. Doug wants better for him and his wife, Jen ( Jenna Fischer). When a promotion to manage a new store comes on line, Doug figures he is a shoe in for the job. Then he m...( read more)eets the new transfer from Canada, Richard Wehlner (John C. Riley), who also has an eye on that job. It then becomes a guy versus guy game of cat and mouse, to see who will land the new job.
I am a fan of Sean William Scott, so I enjoyed him in this film. John C. Riley was also good, but not quite as funny, as I am used to seeing him. Jenna Fischer is one of my favorites. She is a great comic actress, and very beautiful. It was a treat to see Lili Taylor in this film, as Richard's wife. I have loved her since her Say Anything days. Although, I really didn't get the Scottish accent. It was also a treat to see Jason Bateman cameo as the motivational speaker. I think he is comic gold.
I would have to say that The Promotion was a good film, and worth a watch.

Kinda slow. But funny enough to keep you entertained. Plus you can kinda relate to the character's. Not a bad watch.

This movie seemed unable to find the proper tone, it was constantly shifting around and that made it somewhat hard to sit through for me.
