This film has some high points but is ultimately a B movie, robbery gone bad, adventure. Check out the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version for an enhanced viewing experience.

Again, this is one of my Mystery Science Theater views, so if you disagree with me...take a chill pill and understand that I didn't really take this movie at all seriously. Actually, I can't say that completely, because there's elements of this movie that I actually enjoy...( read more)ed.

Now, it's rare that I actually enjoy the film within Mystery Science Theater boxes. There's the classic This Island Earth, and say what you will...there's a bit of love for the actual print of Time Chasers. Not much, but there is some. I won't say that The Rebel Set lives up to those expectations, but there is some redeeming value when you actually get to the plot, if you can last that long.

I hate the fact that these movies were so desperate to target themselves to a hip audience. This movie is really the equivalent of Hackers for my generation. Yeah, there might be a bit of solid film in there, if you didn't shamelessly pander to teenage beatnik audiences. What is really bizarre is to find the Chief from Get Smart in the movie, let alone seeing him as a bad guy. Somehow, this little factoid gives the movie some credibility, but also makes the movie worse somehow. I don't know.

Overall, this movie is crazy tedious, as most of these Mystery Science Theater releases are. The commentary on this one is funny, but not side-splittingly funny. As you can see, I'm actually more concerned with the film in this review and not the humor, so that says wonders both about the movie and the commentary.
