If this isn't the laugh riot of the year, it's still a pleasant surprise, particularly for young, Rock-loving audiences. And in comedy seasons like this one, that's sometimes more than enough. It manages to be a notably funnier than average summer comedy despite being a fairly sh...( read more)ameless rip-off of School of Rock. Like that ultra-superior Linklater film, it appeals to the part of you that dreams of stage diving, counting groupies and trashing hotel rooms. And there's nothing wrong with that.

    actually pretty entertaining

I saw this mainly for the brilliant Rainn Wilson and although I did enjoy it it wasn't quite as funny as I was hoping, or as it could of been methinks.
A slightly more mature 'School of Rock' type of plot which does work better with teens rather than kids but it just doesn't have...( read more) quite enough cheek to it. Not outright soft porn but it could of done with being alittle bit more edgy as its dealing with rock n roll. Some good laugh moments but again not quite laugh out loud, more of a chuckle, but Wilson does make it better than it should be (straight to DVD rip of School of Rock haha), and the rest of the cast do fit in pretty well too. One thing that did stand out over School of Rock was the people and music in this film actually do come across as real rockers with real tunes, it all looks much more authentic, which helps of course.

Nice film with Wilson summing up the old sweaty has been drummer part very nicely, almost a surprise classic but not quite.

I liked this movie. Not at all a new and unique story, it's been done a million times before, sometimes even better. But The Rocker was a good movie.
I love Rainn Wilson. I could watch him all day. He cracks me up in The Office. He was great as Fish. I am a sucker for the 80s ...( read more)and Hairbands, so I loved everything about him in this, down to the sweat soaked drum set!
I would have liked to see more of Christina Applegate in this one though, I felt like there wasn't enough of her character there.
At times I did find myself thinking that this movie could be funnier. All in all I would have to say that The Rocker was a good movie and worth the watch. Anything that brings out the 80s rock child is a good thing in my book.

Opportunity rocks. Back in 1988 Robert "Fish" Fishman was living his rock n' roll dream as the very dedicated and passionate drummer of the hair band Vesuvius until his fellow members unceremoniously kicked him out. Directed by Peter Cattaneo, The Rocker features great acting performances from the following cast:
1.) Rainn Wilson (Robert "Fish" Fishman)
    2.) Christina Applegate (Kim)
    3.) Teddy Geiger (Curtis)
    4.) Josh Gad (Matt)
    5.) Emma Stone (Amelia)

What, only 54% of the audiences and 39% of the critics liked The Rocker? I actually didn't find it bad while finding it great for being another School Of Rock and its similar plot involving an ex-member rockin' with the school kids and its comedic humor once I watched it. Although I saw Rainn Wilson as more of an Office veteran than a rock one, he still does rock, and when he performs on stage he really is amazing there. It's nice to see Teddy Geiger play in a fictional group here as he is, in fact, a pop-rock musician in real life (and I like that); I guess he can really act while writing songs at the same time. If you like rock music then The Rocker is for you, so go ahead and start rolling down the guitar bite if you can. I salute you!
