    From this film I expected great acting, even if I don't usually enjoy courtroom dramas. Since it's Liv Ullmann and Maximilian Schell, there was no doubt there were going to be some excellent performances. And they give their best here. However, the script seems quite forced and u...( read more)nnatural many times, leaving many things unresolved and a certain confusion about the whole thing. It does have some moments of greatness: great close-ups, moments of silent reflection...But the actual courtroom parts are quite boring (except for the final), the daughter and harassing subplots weird and almost forcibly put into the picture and the weird use of languages. "The Rosegarden" could have used more visual poetry, more of the great shots and angles, and a more natural screenplay. Nevertheless, do try to see it, it's highly rewarding and actually thrilling.
