Critic Reviews

  • Joe Leydon, Variety

Perhaps the very first made-for-vid prequel to a spinoff from a sequel to a remake, The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior suggests a CW television network version of a swords-and-sorcery saga.

  • James O'Ehley, Sci-Fi Movie Page

You can't watch it without your brain turning to mush . . .

  • Bill Gibron, DVDTalk.com

In the lingo of the business known as show, prequels are the place where once viable franchises go to die. And since that's almost always the case, what are we to make of a movie that prologues an already established preamble?

  • Mark Pollard, Kung Fu Cinema

Lightly entertaining but forgettable B-actioner best described as JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS meets HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS.

  • Scott Weinberg, FEARnet

Just maybe worthy of a bored afternoon, provided you're either A) 14 years old, or B) a longtime fan of the "quest" movies and you want something to poke a little fun at. (Or maybe not.)

Russell Mulcahy's The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior is a prequel to a spin-off from a sequel of a remake. None of that matters. Leave this one in the desert where it belongs.
The story itself isn't that bad, but it isn't enough to… More

Hmmmmm this is a dodgy little title if ever I saw one lol, I cant even remember what happens in the original 'Scorpion King' film so thats no use. Anyway this actually kicks of ok, its not great by any means but its......ok. The location looks good and sandy, costumes look… More

Good film for fun and nice story and landscapes. Interesting, and cool character. good fighting scenes on par with any martial arts film released in hollywood these days. Most fantasy films don't make use of what is on offer and just cram 2 hours full of suprise and really clever… More

This straight to DVD prequel was never going to WOW anyone, but for the low budget it's ok. Can't say I recognize anyone in it and the SFX are far from stunning. However I thought it was fairly good, it has some good fight scenes and plenty of humour to. If you enjoyed the… More

Quite fine story about the young Mathayus just before he become the villianous Scorpion King. Michael Copon does a not-so-bad performance as the hero and his action sequences.
