didn't like this movie @ all, the only good i saw in it was good salsa music. i consider marc a great salsa singer & he did do a great job interpreting hector lavoe's songs, jennifer a good actress, other than that all you see is hector (marc) drugged all the time. there was a part where poochie (jen) said she wanted people to know that hector was funny, always making jokes, that only came out in a few scenes, everything else was just drugs.
Well obviously bein boricua i knew who hector was. I didnt kno his story though. Wow they were amazing. The story was insane. It hit me back to back. The interview wit poochie was awesome.
Having a vibrant and dynamic direction, don't make this movie the walk the line of salsa music, but it's actually good. While Anthony don't deliver a spectacular performance and even his song interpretation just sounds like normal mark anthony, lopez is quite good, but the story is only about misery.. Well, it's worth the watch and it made me realize that salsa songs we're actually having REAL lyrics :-O
great film, it really gives you insight into who and what Hector Lavoe(not spelled right) did for Puerto Rican music. the film ultimately focuses on his extra curricular habits, but you also realize that a lot of his music influenced a lot of music we listen to today and that his muisc was listened to by not only his people but all across north, central and south america. check it out when you get a chance

I thought J-Lo and Marc Anthony were excellent! Before watching this movie I had never heard of Hector LaVoe... great music... he had a very interesting and traumatic life to say the least.
Extremely impressed by Mark's performance and Jennifer held her own as well. This was a very sensitive movie with all the events that lead up to his unforunate death and the cast and directors and the many producers which also included Jennifer did an outstanding Job..For this king of Salsa...Thanks

Ya que su nombre es EL CANTANTE pues esperaba la excelente banda sonora que de por si tiene la pelicula y esperaba poder entender las tragedias de la vida de tan grandioso artista como lo era Hector Perez (aka Lavoe), pero en esa parte se queda corta. Exceso de excesos que empaņan lo que pudo haber sido una excelente biopic como lo fue RAY. Jlo nada impresionante y Marc ha hecho mejores por el lado dramatico ya que su interpretacion en el escenario (claro si es lo que hace mejor en la vida real) es lo que salva la pelicula de no ser un fracaso.
it was an ok movie. its one of those movies the singer faces problems with drugs, alcohol, family, wife, friends, then he dies. j-lo is soo sexy in this movie. but its a true story of how salsa the music was born.
Even though it did not do good in the theaters, this was still about a famous PR Singer that I grew up listening to & it was very good I have to say. I do recommend this movie to anyone who likes the independant movies & want to broden thier minds!
The whole movie was totally sided, well I don't know much about Hector Lavoe, but I believe they could have thrown some positive things about his life in there. The music is great though.
