  While it is garbage in terms of the animation and the humor, it makes up for its good blend of animation and live action and I will admit the humor did suck but it did get a couple chuckles out of me. Also the voice acting isn't half bad either and each of the actors do decent jobs. I didn't really grow up with the Smurfs very much and didn't really start watching the series until about 4 years ago and I will say it is a fun show but this movie really does somewhat fail in terms of the humor and character traits of the characters that they are representing, but it is a decent movie but it definitely isn't for everyone and really you have to be in the right mood to watch it.

  Why did I watch this movie? "Smurfity-smurf-smurf-smurf".... Wow, the word smurf was probably used about 200 times. The smurfs themselves? FREAKIN annoyin. Who would like these blue things? Character development? None? The villain? Equivalent in terms of cheesiness, acting, and gayness as that of any Power Rangers villain. The live action actors? ...........actually, they were pretty good LOL. Other then that, I haven't seen a movie this nauseating and annoyingly frustrating in a very long time. Too many pop-culture references that are not children-friendly or good spirited. Plus, THEY SAY SMURF TOO MANY DAMN TIMES -- "Where the Smurf are we?" "Smurfette, I think I smurfed your smurfing mom last smurfing night with my smurfilicious smurf." sthu! Every single scene was so geared towards 3-D that the movie becomes a roller-coaster ride. Not a good movie for children or for adults. Hell, it's not for anybody. Really really boring too. Not recommended by any means.

  Smurf happens A good movie with some nice special effects and great animation, on the other hand it was a little boring at times and the story wasn't that interesting. It was a nice try but could have been way better, When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into ours in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

  Just average to me. I liked the animation and the movie for the most part, but Neil Patrick Harris annoys the heck out of me, and there are some Smurfy characters I would have liked to have seen, or seen more of. The "Smurf droppings" line was memorable though, heh.

  What a smurfin' terrible movie. This big screen debut for the little blue commune dwellers is a painful experience, magically transporting the little creatures to New York City. They find themselves in the care of Patrick (Neill Patrick Harris), an ad man who's pretty much a jerk, especially to his doting, pregnant wife. At one point, in his ad man frenzy, he yells, " I never wanted any little people running around here!" Oh no, what a bizarre outburst that somehow cuts directly to his fears of being a father. The movie spends so much time with the human characters, who are shrill, exasperating, and dull form the get-go. The comedy is a mixture of slapstick and insufferable kiddie wordplay, replacing "Smurf" for just about any word in a sentence for a miserable attempt at humor. It's like the screenplay was a Mad Libs page (Am I being too generous crediting a whole page to the script?). The Smurfs is clearly designed for a 3D audience, hence there is crap flying at the screen at every turn. Yeah, another stupid thing thrown at the screen. Hank Azaria plays the thankless role of Gargemel, the man who created Smurfette (voiced, not too badly actually, by pop singer Katy Perry) but schemes to capture Smurfs for their... smurfness. I don't know. If this guy could create his own Smurf, why doesn't he just keep doing this? Instead, Azaria runs around New York speaking in an arch manner, falling down a lot. I suppose the real question is whether this piece of blue excrement could entertain children, its target audience. Perhaps the youngest of tykes will be tickled by the Smurf adventures, but I think most kids will be puzzled and bored and weirded out by the movie, wondering what they had done wrong to deserve watching this dreck.   The Smurfs........... first Scooby Doo, then Alvin and the Chipmunks, then Yogi Bear, and now they have made a CGI Live Action film of The Smurfs, and it stinks just as much as the others. In the beginning of the film, Narrator Smurf tells the audience about the Blue Moon Festival, where every Smurf prepares to sing the Smurf theme song, almost every Smurf. Gutsy Smurf and Grouchy Smurf tell Clumsy Smurf he's on the "Don't Not Let In" list because he is too accident prone. Meanwhile, Papa Smurf sees a vision, showing Clumsy with a dragon wand, the Smurfs in cages, and Gargamel having ultimate power. Worried that this may happen, Papa does not let Clumsy pick Smurf Roots. Refusing to listen, Clumsy does so anyway. Gargamel soon finds Clumsy and chases after him. Clumsy leads Gargamel into the hidden Smurf village, and Gargamel destroys it. Running from Gargamel, Clumsy accidentally goes the wrong way, and some of the other Smurfs go after him and leap into a magic portal and finally discover New York City. They take shelter with a young married couple (Patrick and Grace Winslow), who are expecting a baby. The Smurfs have to return to the Middle Ages and stop Gargamel. With the help of Patrick and Grace, the Smurfs eventually defeat Gargamel. The plot is directly aimed to be stupid enough for kids, its a total rip off of Enchanted, and in this film nothing happens, it's 1 hour and 30 minutes of Smurf jokes and watching Gargamel be an idiot. The CGI is actually pretty good, it captured the Smurfs look pretty good, so that was one good thing about the film. The acting is just for kids, cheesy and lame, but I must admit Neil Patrick Harris was pretty funny, he is a great comedian and he lives up to that even in this. Hank Azaria may have played a convincing Gargamel, but I think the writers were just trying to make us mad with how creepy and lame he is, he just annoyed me. Having Sofia Vergara in this was just a way to get a wider range of actors, and having her had no point to it at all. The voices of the Smurfs were mixed for me, because the voice artist were well picked all except for George Lopez, having him in it was one of the stupidest and most cliche choices for the film. The jokes sucked in this film, nothing but Smurf jokes like Holy Smurf or What the Smurf, I never laughed, chuckled, or even smiled at a joke, maybe its because im older, but its just not funny to me. Other than the CGI being great and Neil Patrick Harris, there is nothing likeable about this film and its just as worthless as last years Yogi Bear. If you loved this show as a child, prepare to have your childhood destroyed, because this is a terrible movie.

  Once again Hollywood decides to extinguish anything creative about a franchise, and simply set it in our world. The Smurfs have a rich history, but here they are just fish out of water in New York. Yes, you have seen this film before. What's most annoying is that it starts promising. In the land of the Smurfs, with Gargamel even referring to the past by calling Smurfette a traitor, it seemed as though they would be faithful. This is soon dropped for terrible jokes, inexplicable pop culture references, and product placement. Sometimes they even combine all three. For example, The Smurfs hide next to an advertisement for The Blue Man Group, and later for Blu Ray Discs. HAHAHAHAHAHA Fucking HA. The pop culture jokes are just absurd. Sure, this is a kids film, so children are supposed to add up that Katy Perry is doing the voice of Smurfette and she just referenced one of her own songs. Are we supposed to think that these characters have seen Brokeback Mountain and Braveheart. It's great to see that Hollywood has a Scottish character that simply must yell out "Freedom". Braveheart is 15 years old for Christ's sake. It even has plot points that are suddenly dropped. Nothing comes of Gargamel de-ageing an elderly woman. Nor of him being in prison. He just gets out and wastes a few minutes of a lengthy running time. Neil Patrick Harris looks bored, but at least tries to insert some form of comedy. In the only decent parts of mixing our world with The Smurf's' he questions how they are named and why they continually use Smurf as a verb and an adjective. Stupid on all accounts. Though I did love Azrael and Azaria tried to do something with this tripe.

  Growing up I loved the smurfs cartoon. I loved how weird it all was and that catchy song at the beginning would always get stuck in my head. Plus, Smurfette is the hottest cartoon chick ever(yeah, I said it!). The movie is exactly what you would expect it to be. Lots of inside jokes, crazy humor, and an overall good message at the end. At the beginning I didn't really care of the guy who was playing Gargamel(Hank Azaria), but by the end I thought he was perfect. He made that character come to life. I really dug all the smurfs(especially the one voiced by George Lopez) and the way they used the word "Smurf" for everything. Like "I'll be smurfed!" The effects are pretty good, right along with similar movies like "Alvin and the Chipmunks". It's cheesy, campy fun for an entire family, and if you honestly don't like it I think your missing the point. It's a freaking Smurfs movie, what else would you expect?

I don't think the problem is coming from their cast - it's more from the screenwriting. There's probably no other movie this year that makes you more bored than this.

The Smurfs are cute little blue things that live in a beautiful village, each smurf has a personality, but things go horribly wrong when their all time enemy Gargamel chases after them, and things are about to go even worst when they by mistake enter a portal and live in New York. Overall an awesome <b>attraction</b>. Really worth watching in 3D, because its Smurfing wonderful. A great ride with a great cast of actors and voice overs that brings out the kid within us and is able to fully entertain. I highly recommend it! <u>Smurfette:</u> <i>"You smurfed with the wrong girl."</i>

  Who better to direct these cute little blue guys who we all loved and adored as kids than Raja Gosnell, director of the live-action Scooby-Doo flicks and the from-scratch idea that was Beverly Hills Chihuahua? Anybody is the answer to this pretty simple, pretty obvious question. It could have been fun, it could have been much cuter, and it could have been something along the lines of this summer's Winnie the Pooh movie, but it wasn't, only because its missing the number one key element it needs to have that feeling the old Smurfs had: animation. It's the look of this Smurfs flick that really brings it down to the sewers, not the ridiculous plot or incredibly cheesy script, where those are just for the fun the kids need to walk out with a smile on their faces--parents too! These old, very loveable cartoons aren't getting the comeback films they deserve. Both Scooby-Doo and Alvin and the Chipmucks were both great cartoons that were destroyed by the live-action mixed with animation formula and it isn't what these classic characters need to be brought back the right way. This formula worked well with Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but since then its only been done incorrectly. If Looney Toons, Alvin and the Chipmucks, Scooby-Doo, and The Smurfs were done the right way they would be much greater achievements than they actually turned out to be. Your probably wondering what the "right way" is. Was this year's Winnie the Pooh destroyed beyond any means? No, because it was done the way it deserved to be done, the way all of these classic-cartoons should have been brought back with: hand-drawn animation. Instead of following the hand-drawn animation formula these classics need, Alvin, Scooby, and now the Smurfs have been brought back to the screen in a way they can never be forgiven for. We can all be thankful Winnie the Pooh went the smart route and is now a loveable motion-picture. If The Smurfs had been a hand-drawn animated movie the characters would have been presented on the screen the way they were years and years ago, the way that people had fallen in love with them with. This whole live-action mixed with computer-animated mash-up is getting old and worse by the picture. To think that we haven't seen the last of Alvin and the Chipmucks like this, and will only get more sequels out of The Smurfs. It's a shame really to see these incredible cartoon characters get destroyed like this. What's next? Tom and Jerry? The storyline here is quite simple and only feels like the Smurfs version of Enchanted, but worse. When some of the tiny blue Smurfs are chased out of their village by Gargamal and his ugly, freakishly computer-animated kitty, they stumble upon New York City due to a blue moon. With Gargamal on their tale, the Smurfs need to find the door back to their universe before its too late! Oh, and don't forgot the humans they'll stumble upon, change their lives, and all become a happy little family with! Come on, you don't actually consider that a spoiler, do you? That happens every single time with movies like this. The only thing positive that can come from the Smurfs is its decent voice-acting. Jonathon Winters, Alan C*mming, Anton Yelchin, George Lopez, and Jeff Foxworthy all fit these Smurf characters quite well, but who surprises me the most here is Katy Perry as the voice of Smurfette. Her work here doesn't show she's ready to act, but that she might just have some potential someday. To get off these little blue creatures, lets move over to the humans. Neil Patrick Harris is always fun to watch wheatear it's a duet, talk-show, cameo, or on How I Met Your Mother. The only thing that lead me into the Smurfs with a little positive aspect was his doing in the film, and even though we've seen his character a thousand times done over and over, I'm glad it was him over any other acting here or this would've been a complete disaster, performance-wise. Who gives the worst performance here, surprisingly, is Hank Azaria. His character has some of the worst lines I've ever seen in a movie, and even though Azaria is usually great with playing these corny villains in PG rated kids flick like this, I couldn't help but absolutely hate him in this movie. He's just as bad as Steve Martin is in Looney Toons: Back in Action, and believe me, that's bad! The movie starts off the way a classic Smurfs episode would, and that almost had me thinking this movie would have some potential to being good. It can be fun and enjoyable in its tiniest moments, but the movie doesn't do enough to be worthy enough for the viewing. I hate to say something so negative over classic-cartoon characters that I absolutely love, but when it comes down to the storyline and rocky paceing its hard to call this movie more than just half-decent. Raja Gosnell will not only have to live with destroying Scooby-Doo, but now he'll have the Smurfs on his shoulders as well. How does this man sleep at night? What the Smurf?!

  This film holds itself just over the level of being able to call it a train-wreck. The Smurf's is truly the exact opposite of what it should have been (a harmless kids film). This film abuses the word "smurf" and it honestly is said far too many times to even keep count. This film begins with a story about a magical little perfect world, where little blue people live away from harm, but when they are sucked into New York City, cliche's, puns, and obvious advertisements will spin through your brain and be seeing blue for the rest of your life. This film is obvious, it provides absolutely no comedy, the dialogue is visibly staged, the voices over-act, it makes you role your eyes about a thousand times, and I literally did not care about any of the Smurf's by the end of the film. I cared more about whether the human's would live happily ever after rather than the Smurf's. This is far more than just a disappointment, this film is one of the worst films of the year so far, and it just bugs me when such a bad movie tries to throw in subtle moments where it actually makes you want to care for the characters, but since it is surrounded my cheese and cliches, I really just don't care when a sad moment rises. I will probably never revisit this film, because it is just too annoying to bear twice. It has some heart, but it is lost in the story. SMURF THIS MOVIE!!!
