Well...there's another trailer out...and I have mixed feelings about it...
You ever hear of a movie that, conceptually, sounds great (creative director, great source material, well-rounded cast), and then after finally seeing a trailer, you start getting that nagging feeling in the back of your mind that it'll more than likely be shitty?
And yet, despite that feeling, you'll still see the movie in theaters because you WANT it to be good, even if it'll more than likely be shitty?
That's how I'm currently feeling about The Spirit. Yeah, the movie looks pretty, just like Sin City and 300 were, and Frank Miller was good friends with Will Eisner, and yadda yadda yadda. I still think this'll be crap. I WANT it to be good, I REALLY want it to be good, but it'll probably be crap.
The Spirit, one more comic book adaptation from Frank Miller.Sin City-ish graphic, with amazing casts like Scarlett Johannson,Eva Mendes,Jaime King,Paz Vega, and Samuel.L.Jackson.Sin City is the best comic adaptation ever, how about this one?Failure or success?Just wait, but before, check out the seductive posters below. They look fucking amazing, don't they?
If I had a nickel for every time I heard the phrase "Its Sin City featuring The Spirit" I'd be a millionaire. Every single person I know that has said anything about this movie has said that line I quoted. Change the word from "featuring" to "starring" or "introducing" and I've heard that a thousand times. Not exactly the best reaction to get a thousand times, but who knows, it might be good.
And, as I count my nickels, I'm also going to have to say this: "I hope this new movie with Scarlett Johansson doesn't suck".
Hollywood loves Frank Miller. And well, so do I. I feel like such a geek admitting I've got so many graphic novels from him.. But I don't have this one, and I've got no idea about the story on this.
It's some post-noir CGI concoction probably.. And I'll probably think that employing live actors was a waste of time, but hey... Give it a chance?
So I have not seen 300 in it's entirety and I liked Sin City much more after 15-captioned 2am showings when I was mothering an infant but in all honestly Sin city grew on me. I always appreciated it for what it is a CGI masterpiece a look and feel that is in a class by itself but the violence was raw and terrifing granted I was expecting when I first saw it. But Miller is a truthful artist depicting a world that in a sense is alive and well now. So The Spirit looks interesting, very simular to Sin City in it;s esthetics which is fine but the story line is rather intriging...
This new brand of "comic book"-esque comic book adaptations are really fucking cool. Any movie with Sam Jackson as the villain in a huge fur coat with a bevy of hot babes at his side has to be good, right?
FRANK MILLER the creator of SIN CITY presents a FRANK MILLER film in the style of SIN CITY by FRANK MILLER that is reminiscent of SIN CITY by FRANK MILLER. SIN CITY. FRANK MILLER. Seriously though, I wish Frank Miller and all his buddies would quit making entire movies on one greenscreened sound stage. This movie is still going to be awesome. If you don't know who The Spirit is, he's pretty much the Jimmy Stewart of superheroes, which is to say that he's old and awesome and wears a mask.
Though I'm not familiar with Will Eisner's graphic novel, I am familiar with director Frank Miller's storytelling sensibilities, and I tend to agree with them.
