Shot on video - had to be - so I found it interesting to see if I could get into the movie though I was constantly criticising it'sp roduction values. it was fascinating in that it unfolds a mystery about a murder and a curse wrapped up in tattoo tradition - both modern and ancient. I felt the story was shallow but interesting, the filmmaking well-done though not flawless.
This had far better acting than I expected and a unique plot for a horror movie. A solid thriller done by a joint venture by New Zeland and Singapore show that not all movies have to come from the USA. Worth watching.
THE TATTOOIST is a supernatural thriller, made by Singaporean and New Zealand co-production partners. The story centres on Samoan spiritual beliefs, in which the barrier between our world and the spirit
this movie was awesome. It had an unusual story to it. It was definately spooky. You will learn about the samoans and their tattoo rituals. Very well done.
This isn't a full horror movie, and there are some ick scenes, or ink scenes lol. But it is an interesting thriller. There is some dark humor, and a boy who can see the dead, and even use his body to communicate with them in an interesting way.
This was pretty good. Nothing awesome or anything, but entertaining enough for me to wanna finish it. I love Jason Behr and I'm glad to see him in a good movie. Skinwalkers was also very good and I hope to see him in more, The story was ok and I actually enjoyed this one.
Hmmm...this was actually pretty good. But I have to admit, you just have to love the fact that his customers never told him what they wanted done, and he used the same needles.
The effects of the growing tattoo were really cool. It looked twisted, but beautiful at the same time. The girl's tattoo turned out to be really amazing. Even though hibiscus flowers don't grow like that. I like the story line about the Samoans. Watching their way of tattooing made me a bit nervous. And I've just come back with 2 more tattoos!
So what have I learned about New Zealand?
1) Stay away from this tattooist
2) Stay away from sheep country (Black Sheep)
I didn't like this movie. Period. There were some good stuff in it, but overall it was just blah. Jason Behr, is not only gorgeous, but seriously underrated! One of the most underrated actors out there. He gives an outstanding performance here, really natural and believable. I also liked here the special effects, the ghost on the mirrors, the way he shows himself by the end of the movie, it was actually very well-done. The art work of the tattoos was impressive, they looked beautiful. My problem with this movie is that I just didn't like it. I didn't feel drawn to it or amusement of any kind. I did not enjoy it in any way whatsoever except the beginning where the dad is cutting his son's flesh (and then he's grown and Jason was naked in front of the window and all the other scenes were he was shirtless, lol). Yes, it was original and yes there was good development, and a great soundtrack, but I just didn't like it.
A very orignal storyline... a bit of a look into the history of tattoos that can heal... full body tattoos that have meaning to different cultures all over the world..this film shows the very thin line that divides the real world from the spirit world... I don't wanna give away the storyline.. so take a chance... watch this movie.. and enjoy the artwork .... ohh... also... if your not a fan of tattoos and it's history.. then don't waste your time...
This is the reason there are too many horror films out there and hence they are currently running out of ideas.
Seriously now, dangerous tattoos? Overrated!
Péssimo filme. Pelo menos tem seus momentos engraçados, porque as atuações são dignas de novela mexicana. História completamente idiota, parece até O Chamado, só que com tatuagens ao invés de fitas de vídeo.
Half-arsed NZ could-have-been that didn't benefit from Behr's two-tone face of stone nor the fact that it faked all gore, spooks and sex. Totally shortchanged. Ferryman beats this hands down. I can't believe this didn't even work as a special interest film for a tattoo enthusiast such as myself.
Jason Behr is nice to look at, but that's about as far as this AWFUL thing goes. The acting is either wooden OR bad, the sex scene is unsexy, the storyline is ridiculous and uninteresting. It's just such a low budget piece of crap. Why on earth Jason decided to do this is beyond me........it's all just such a non event.
