Great ending to a movie! Never saw it coming. Entire cast was excellent in it. Bryan Singer directs this film perfect. He keeps you interested from the beginning but never clues you in till the end who the main villain is.
Love every character in this movie, all were so important, no one was really overshadowed. I especially like Gabriel Burne, Benicio Del Toro and Kevin Spacey. A must see movie!
There are two kinds of people. Those who figure out the twist in The Usual Suspects, and those who do not. I am one of the latter, which makes me happy, because it sucks to figure out the twist to a movie. Makes the rest of the movie virtually redundant (like Fracture). This was GREAT.
The reason this intricate piece of gamesmanship leaves such a long-lasting impression is because it takes advantage of the guillability of the viewer. This yarn scurries and scales its way meandering between being an entertaining crime drama; an intricately conceived puzzle play; a fragment of gangster mythology and a parody of a cops-and-robbers film. It just doesn't show-off but has something to show in each and every frame.
Kevin Spacey is tremendous in this brilliantly plotted and well cast noir piece, which remains engrossing from the beginning to the unforgettable twist at the end. This bears watching time and time again, even when you know the twist
One of the best put together Hitchcock style modern films. This will be a classic. Performances are top notch and he filming is great. A must see movie.
A very well done film. I would have given it a higher rating if the ending had not have been ruined for me before hand. If you know nothing of this movie and like crime mysteries, than you should watch it before someone spoils it for you.
This is one of the best modern classics of our times. The brilliance of this movie is the very well executed multi-layered storytelling and all the tiny nuances hidden throughout the movie that you don't even pickup on until you rewatch it a couple times.....im still finding things and i've seen this about 6 or 7 times. Then theres the plot twist that truely defines what a "plot twist" is (somthing thats rarely done right in modern cinema) Brian Singer's direction gets the credit for this one because his use of clips from previously established scenes really convinces you to think that each suspect could really be "Keyser Soze" so it takes you from one extreme to another till the film concludes. Then there's the cast who are all brilliant and define there characters so well expecially Gabriel Byrne,Benicio Del Toro and thee amazing Kevin Spacey who really drive the movie to the masterpiece status that it rightfully deserves.
A smart, cool thriller with a great cast and superb direction. The screenplay is mind-boggling and will have you guessing until the end revelation. One of the greatest twists in the history of cinema.
I wanted to like it a whole lot more than I did, I thought the whole movie was boring except for the very end with the twist ending. I didn't like any of the characters in the movie except for Kevin Spacey's character, which in my oppion is why the movie did so good.
Overrated - If I had seen this movie when it first came out I'd have probably given it a much higher rating. However these days the 'twist' is such a part of movie folklore that I already knew what was coming and to be honest outside of Kevin Spacey's performance there isn't really much to elevate The Usual Suspects above being just another prosaic post-Tarantino crime caper.
I am finding myself in this predicament more and more often, it seems every time i aim to review a great film, i am lost for words, and end up with the same cliche'd point.. What can i say aboput this film to do it justice? Its a full on twisting tale of massive proportions. extremely clever, it shows that the most powerful of criminal minds are those who stand in our shadow. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince people he never existed. This film thrives on this principle. There is a saying that comes to mind, 'its always the quiet ones'.
this is one of the most clever movies ever made. Not only does it contain the most complex plot twist in cinema history, but it also boost some of the most likeable group of criminals from any movie. Wonderful performances from Kevin Spacey and Benicio Del Toro.
The Usual Suspects is the greatest mystery story ever told in any medium. It keeps you guessing until the very end, and once you think you have the solution, it completely changes right before your eyes. That is the key to a phenomenal plot twist. The script is just brilliance from beginning to end and at no point in the entire film do you feel you know the answer to the puzzle. The cast was hired perfectly. There was not one poor casting choice. Each actor fit their character perfectly, especially Kevin Spacey and Benicio Del Toro. I am astounded every time I watch this film because you realize something new each time you watch it. I won?t reveal what I have noticed because it would ruin the mystery of the story. John Ottman deserves a lot of credit in this film. His score is one of the best scores I have ever heard in a film and his editing is able to keep the great mystery alive until the last second. I applaud everyone who worked on this film and you should be incredibly proud of your work.
This is an excellent movie. The film holds a pure intellectual wit that is rare and tempting. The final resolution has the whole film flipped, that the viewer has to see it more than once.
The cast is all very good and so is the script. The problem was I knew the ending before watching the film because of a cinema course I had at school. Nonetheless, I didn't know HOW the character of Kevin Spacey would have planned everything. It's greatly directed and different from the 90's crime/thriller movies.
