  Here's a very interesting take on the teen sex comedy. Shot and told as if this were a documentary it chronicles a group of friends who try to help their friend Matt lose his virginity. Along they way they encounter frat parties, tranny blow up dolls, porn stars, and becoming youtube sensations. The performances are all decent and feel genuine. But that probably stems from them all being unknowns. Pretty uneven, and long gaps between funny scenes hold this back from being a very funny movie. Instead, it's a few very funny parts, scattered throughout 90 minutes. Kind of a less funny version of "American Pie" and "Superbad". Good for one watch if you want a laugh, just don't expect to laugh as much as you would like.

  Zack: Have you ever lost your virginities? Wanna meet my friend? The main problem with 'The Virginity Hit' is that we don't care, like, or want to see the protagonists. Founded by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, this film is about a group of friends, all who smoke out of a bong when losing there virginity. When there is only one left, the group attempts to get their buddy laid, and the story begins. 'The Virginity Hit' is vulgar, not in a good way, as most comedies are able to do nowadays (The Hangover, The 40 Year Old Virgin), but this film doesn't produce laughs except for a few brief moments, but those were chuckles. Not once did I find myself laughing out loud, however many sex jokes were made, I was bored, and irritated. Now I ask myself, why in the world would two of the funniest men in hollywood, who created one of the most successful comedy website, chose to sponsor and release this? When Matt's untimely breakup with a girlfriend throws a monkey wrench into his plans, his friends urge him to continue the mission anyway -- with them along to film the adventures. My Thoughts: "Matt and Zach's relationship reminded me of Jonah Hill and Michael Cera's, in the film 'Superbad'. The film had the feel of the movie's 'Superbad' and 'American Pie'. There are quite a few funny moments, and some pretty down right embarrassing one's for poor Matt. Worth taking a look at if you liked 'Superbad' and the 'American Pie', flicks."

  The tagline of this film is, "Are you in, or are you out?" and I can honestly say that I am definitely in! The Virginity Hit is not in any way original, but the comedy lurking throughout in this hilarious mockumentary about a guy losing his virginity for the first time is brilliant. It does feel a bit quirky at moments and the characters are definitely weak, but they do know how to bring the comedy to the table. I found myself laughing at every situation that the film brought. I never thought I would say that I like a film about friends filming their friend having sex, but in this case, I will make an exception. I cannot call this a great comedy, but for what it is I had a great time viewing it. This definitely get's a recommendation. Great job Will Ferrel!

  Several newspaper critics may be hurting this movie, by relishing the chance to be vicious toward it. It's a soft target, a small picture with which the studio, tried to score a big profit, because that's what big studios do. You know a critic isn't fully engaged when he throws insults at a movie, and those insults seem like they could refer to any movie he didn't like or any blind date that didn't like him. They're lashing out at the popularity of a youth genre, and showing their resentment toward people who like a good YouTube clip more than 8 1/2 -- and hence, give less of a shit about what a critic has to say. Virginity Hit is half dramatic experiment and half comedy. Botko and Gurland continue to play with reality and comedy and how we sometimes separate them in order to feel safe enough to laugh. The editing is perfect in getting around the ponderousness of handheld moving camera shots in realtime; and the shaky clips aren't sick-making. The camera is almost always the POV of one of the friends, and that helps involve you in their circle... whenever you see any compassion, it doesn't just belong to who you see, it also belongs to whomever's filming. But playing teen sex and substance issues for video-recorded reality, the movie has a huge discomfort factor right from the beginning and it takes a while to get over this elephant in the room. For half the movie, you're wondering how far these people are going to go in their camera cruelties toward each other -- which they seem not to question BECAUSE they have the camera -- so it takes a while to get a feel for the characters. The actors are good at conveying "reality," as in I'm-in-front-of-a-camera-now reality... though one weirdo innkeeper seems like an old-age version of Deputy Winston from Cabin Fever, which makes him an unfortunate surrogate for audience members over 45. The movie is self-aware, of its using teenage cruelty and lewdness for entertainment, and contrasts all the "laughing-at" with distressing situations that hurt kids bad and which we won't laugh at -- regular betrayals, absent parents and good ones who die too early. By the half-way point, this felt like a comedy about people who don't know how serious the issues are that they're laughing at, so they're innocents. A lot of the jokes touch on their blissful ignorance, so that Virginity Hit becomes like a comedy version of "Kids" set in suburbia ... It's also the back story of 50 clips on YouTube with a cruel side to them you don't notice as you're laughing like a kid. Another reviewer on Flixter implies that Virginity Hit is about a brief period where children can act debauched and stupid without adult consequences, and that's true as well. But the movie is finally aware that everyone is luckier to get through this part of adolescence well-adjusted than they were to get lucky.

  though purporting to be a comedy about one poor individual's efforts to lose his virginity, and there are indeed moments of hilarity here, this really is an unintended documentary about the invasiveness of the videocam in everyday life, and how we learn to accept it and even yearn for it. there was a time, recent history to some, where movies were the primary entertainment venue, stealing the thunder of previous kings like theater and vaudeville. nobody expected television (just like the theater and vaudeville didn't expect the movies). this film heralds what perhaps is the next step ...

  Lets be honest, it is kind of an awkward subject when discussing losing one's virginity. So to have that entire experience made public via your step brothers camera takes some balls. I don't care what anyone else says about this kid. This "mocu-mentary" is centered around a group of four friends who decide to take a hit of a special bong every time one of them loses their virginity. Yes, this is the basis for which the film is set. The final friend that has to lose the big V is Matt, a nerdy guy who has a steady girlfriend and plans on getting it on with her on their anniversary. Okay, so far its whatever-the four friends are nothing you couldn't find in any high school in America. I couldn't even tell you all of their names, but the fat red-haired kid (whose name is Zack) is pretty funny as well as serving as the ring leader. The other two, the coolest of the group and the one who dresses weirdly are simply along for the ride. Rumors get out that Matt's girlfriend Nicole cheated on him and so he is going to get back at her by allowing Zack to film it all and have a get together in the next room so they can listen to it. A little odd, but this sequence offers the funniest bit of the film by far. Just keep a lookout for the guy who works at the hotel, so classic it could not have been scripted. In fact, that's the best thing the movie has going for it. You genuinely feel like you are watching just a couple of kids taping their escapades and no doubt that much of this is improvised, but it isn't a true story, it is a movie and they create a dang good atmosphere of naturalness and teenage humor throughout. Matt can't go through with the prank on his cheating girlfriend though and so opens up room for the 90-minute running time to spread its wings. There are the expected attempts at helping Matt try to finally lose his virginity including porn stars, his step sister and a college student conducting a thesis, but it also has a few rather touching moments that are unexpected from such a low-brow comedy. Matt lives with Zack due to his father being a drug addict and his mother passing when he was only 9. It is truly sad to see his sick mother wish him a happy life in her final days and we feel awful for Matt when he learns his father has stripped his bank accounts of all the money his mother left him for college. The movie gets a few things across, mostly without meaning to though. In watching this we realize just how short a period of time we really have on earth to be stupid and take advantage of that ignorance of youth. That may be a little too deep of a message from a movie entitled 'The Virginity Hit' but its true. And just like other gross and crude films about teenage boys trying to lose their virginity it is taken with a tad bit of humility. We understand where they are coming from even if we would never do any of the things they tried. The movie was made by people of a certain age for people of a certain age, God only knows what these kids will think of their little movie that could when they look back on it in their fifties. Good times.

  Pretty funny "docu-style" movie. It's sort of like a more "realistic" version of Superbad--almost. Thought it got off to a slow start, but it ended up being a pretty funny movie. Watch out for the Internets!
