Kat wouldn't be so urgently in need were it not for her spoiled half sister's wedding, where the best man happens to be Kat's handsome ex-boyfriend. What's worse, the currently single Kat has to schlep all the way from New York to London, where her wildly dysfunctional family lives. Kat does what any enterprising single woman would do -- she hires a professional escort. So what if her solution crosses a few morally dubious lines and costs her a tidy 6,000 bucks? Lucky for her that she hires Nick Mercer, one of New York's better known and in-demand professional male escorts. Once in England, the insightful and charismatic Nick helps Kat navigate the choppy waters of her screwy family and caddish old flame Jeffrey and convinces everyone he meets that he and Kat are an item. As Nick charms Kat's parents, Bunny and Victor Ellis, her self-absorbed half sister Amy, Amy's fiancée Edward and every living, breathing woman within a 100-kilometer radius, Kat finds herself feeling things she's never felt before. What begins as merely a face-saving ruse with a dashing guy-for-hire quickly becomes more than Kat ever expected.

Kat (Debra) is looking for a date for her sister's wedding so she hires an escort to make her ex jealous. Some secrets are revealed at the wedding and things get complicated with the escort. Good cast and good storyline.

"The Wedding Date" centers around Kat Ellis (Messing), who returns to her parents' London home for her sister's wedding. Afraid of confronting her ex-fiancé, who dumped her two years before, she hires a top-drawer male escort (Mulroney) to pose as her new boyfriend. The film borr...( read more)ows too much from similar wedding movies. It is almost a carbon copy of 1999's "Picture Perfect" and mixes in scenes similar to "The Wedding Planner" and "My Best Friends Wedding". The movie also has a reverse "Pretty Women" theme going for it, and knowing her audience, the director makes clever references to that and other films. "The Wedding Date" has all the clichéd elements of a typical wedding movie, there is the stereotypical overbearing mother (Holland Taylor, "Legally Blonde"), and practically plagiarized wedding speeches by the family and friends at the wedding and rehearsal dinner. The twist at the ending has been done before, but it was something that wasn't completely expected. The real reason why Kat was dumped comes as a surprise and changes the direction of the film for the last half hour. Even though "The Wedding Date" is predictable, it is able to stand on its own. Debra Messing, in her first lead role, proves she can be charming and funny. Dermot Mulrony has great chemistry with Debra Messing. Definitely a feel good movie. Have a girls night and see this show.

"Here's to the husbands who've won you, the losers who've lost you, and the lucky bastards who've yet to meet you." -Nick Mercer. We're all fond of wedding scenes and also the soundtracks used are pretty much lovely like the songs secret and home.
