This movie STUNK. The original is brilliant, innovative, tightly written and beautiful filmed. The remake is stupid and nonsensical. Do NOT waste your time.
  • October 25, 2009
Poor remake of the 1973 classic.
  • October 17, 2009
His worst movie ever, but I dont entirely blame him, the story line was horrible

While I can see why people didn't enjoy this movie, I don't understand why people dislike it as much as they do. There are many movies where the ending allows the continuation of the story, per se... Anyway, seems like people liked the original version much more... So I am very c...( read more)urious to be able to see the original version to see why people seem to like it so much better than this version.

I gave Neil LaBute the benefit of the doubt early on in his career, but this film, especially its ending, seals the deal in my book: the man is a total mysoginist.
  • October 5, 2009
Interesting storyline. Kinda creepy as well I think. Overall decent movie but a bit weird.
  • October 4, 2009
    Not very interesting.

This movie has one of the worst endings Ive ever seen. And there was so much f-ed up crap that is never explained. I honestly was left with so many unanswered questions at the end of it all. Horribly dissapointing. And by the way, I wasnt too impressed by Nick's acting either, an...( read more)d Kate Beahan looked like she was constantly crying so...yeah. Not good.

What did this movie teach me? If you have to bribe someone to take you somewhere, perhaps you should consider not going at all.

Why, why, why did anyone think it would be a good idea to remake a film whose entire charm is its age and originality- this isn't just a pointless remake, it's an awful awful film, and not even Sobieski's presence can justify its existence. You honestly will not believe how a rem...( read more)ake so loyal to the plot of a fantastic original can be quite so unwatchable...
  • August 25, 2009
It had me guessing all long. Loved that but the ending I wasn't to found of.
  • August 24, 2009
OMG! WTF!!! Why did they even attempt to do this....? The original is PERFECT! One of the greatest movies ever.
  • August 20, 2009
This gets two stars on account of the hilariousness of the women punching the the bear outfit.
  • August 17, 2009
terrible- unwatchable without rifttrax. also wtf is ellen burstyn doing in this movie?
  • August 15, 2009
I like Cage. Anyone who knows me knows this is true. But judging by his past few movies, I think he has been taking retarded pills.
  • August 8, 2009
I didn't know the original movie. The beginning was good and intriguing but the end is absurd and utterly ridiculous!! Please don't watch it!

  • August 5, 2009
A completely unnecessary remake. Nothing new has been brought to the table, except of course, Nicolas Cage's wooden acting.
  • July 27, 2009
Dissapointing remake that was rather lame but the pagan theme is excellent!
  • July 27, 2009
This film does not deserve even the half star. What a load of crap.
  • July 21, 2009
TOTAL LET DOWN... JUST LIKE THE VILLAGE
  • July 20, 2009
weird twist of things in this story line.
  • July 5, 2009
A really far fetched movie, I had no idea on what it was really about either... Shame its got Cage in it, it was only worth watching to get a perve of him.
  • July 5, 2009
At first, don´t see this movie! I really regret I did! If you love the devil you will probably love this movie too. But for a healthy human this movie was just absurd, evil and terrible!!! Edward Malus (Nicolas Cage) arrives to a very strange village on an island, to investigate ...( read more)a disapearing child! He notice soon that this village is a big sect and everyone has some wrongs in their heads. He solve the case, or he thought he did. But then a big surprise will meet him! I will warn you, this movie has no lucky end, the end is just sick!! This movie creates only anger with it´s mess and stupid plot..... and of course it´s end!!
  • July 4, 2009
A truly awful film. Pointless. A poor attempt of a remake!
  • July 1, 2009
I think there was a B plot going on somewhere at the start but someone lost the napkin it was written on. Would you believe Nicolas Cage beating the shit out of virgins in a bear suit can't save this mess??
  • June 30, 2009
This movie sucked...can't believe Nicolas Cage would even agree to do this piece of crap. It's beyond bad.
  • June 30, 2009
The editing stinks.....yet it was a long running film. WTF did they cut out? There was no point to this story at all! Other than my own theory of what the film was about. My theory is Cage is actually dead when he meets the girl in the station wagon. Terrible story.
  • June 29, 2009
I have never seen a better movie!!!
  • June 26, 2009
So bad. So very bad. DOP NOT SEE THIS!!
  • June 22, 2009
Terrible remake with poor direction, a lame and nonsensical script, bad acting, and a lack of suspense and horror. Terrible in pretty much every way.
  • June 21, 2009
Oh this was a strange heady little brew of a flick"
  • June 17, 2009
    Plot Summary:

AHH, my daughter is missing! AHHH, there's weird stuff! AHHHH, I found my daughter! AHHHHHHH, I'm covered in bees! AHHHHHHHH, I'm dead!

Even so, I still wanna see it. I saw the original, and it was VERY good.
  • June 15, 2009
    ok remake. not labute's finest
  • June 13, 2009
"This is a story whose chapters were carefully written," says Ellen Burstyn's Sister Summersisle, toward the end of the film. I beg to differ; the plot is a bloody mess! The fact that this remake of the 1973 cult classic is horrendously awful is somehow easier to take than if it ...( read more)had been just plain mediocre. I'm not going to waste too much breath on it. LaBute's script loses much of the cleverness and subtlety of Anthony Shaffer's brilliant original, while adapting the few elements it preserves without, it seems, comprehending their significance to the ingenious web Shaffer was spinning. I'm dancing around the subject a little here because I don't want to spoil the plot for anybody who hasn't seen the original, but there were basically three crucial aspects to Edward Woodward's character, Sergeant Howie, that made him just the man the community of Summerisle were looking for: his devout Christianity, his chastity and, as a policeman investigating the disappearance of a little girl, the power he wielded. LaBute fudges all three of these. For example, Nicholas Cage's character is a still a police officer, a Californian highway patrolman, but the script relocates him to Washington state, outside his jurisdiction, rendering him effectively powerless. Anyway, I won't go on. Just avoid it; it's really bad! Cage is dreadful. Molly Parker's is the one effective performance.
  • June 4, 2009
Ummm, yeah, stick with the original.
  • May 26, 2009
So awful on every possible level. Badly directed, badly acted, badly written, god, this movie was hell and desperation.
  • May 5, 2009
read all the reviews on here before seeing it so had absolutely no expectation for it, but i didnt think it was a s bad a s everyone is making it out to be. yeah it was confusing and hard to follow at times but it is not the worst movie i have seen.
  • April 23, 2009
This is a shit film and shit ending!! Although when he punches someone in the face with a bunny suit on its quite amusing!
  • April 18, 2009
Totally boring in the beginning, to the point of just waiting for Nicolas Cage to do something goofy to break the boredom.

When does it get good? When the mystery develops further into pure comedy. Do yourself a favor and watch the clips online of "Best parts of Wicker Man" and...( read more) you'll see what I mean.
