In this wild and outrageous computer-animated comedy-adventure, an odd assortment of animals from the New York Zoo -- including a lion, a giraffe, an anaconda, a koala, and a squirrel -- discover what...( read more  read more... ) a jungle the city can be when one of their own is mistakenly shipped to the wild and they embark on a dangerous mission to rescue him. The film boasts an impressive vocal ensemble -- Kiefer Sutherland (as the respected lion leader, Samson), Greg Cipes (as Samson's son, Ryan), Jim Belushi (as Benny, the street savvy squirrel and Samson's best friend), Janeane Garofalo (as a quick-witted giraffe), Richard Kind (as a dim-witted anaconda), William Shatner (as a wicked wildebeest), and Eddie Izzard (as Nigel, an acerbic koala) -- along with cutting edge animation, and a story filled with hilarious situations. Director Steve "Spaz" Williams and producer Clint Goldman helped to revolutionize CG character animation during their long association with ILM, and were responsible for the acclaimed Blockbuster Entertainment commercials featuring Carl the rabbit and Ray the guinea pig.

Pretty much the same as Madagascar. Pales in comparison.

Interesting animated feature directed by Steve 'Spaz' Williams. An all-star cast lends voice to a diverse group of animals from the New York Zoo. A young lion Ryan (Greg Cipes) is impatient with his coming of age and acquiring a roar like his dad Samson (Kiefer Sutherland). Samson is living on a false reputation that he was once a king in the African wild. Ryan runs away on a ship destined for Africa to rescue animals. Samson and his friends commandeer a tugboat and head to Africa to find Ryan. Other vocal talent provided by Janeane Garofalo, James Belushi, William Shatner, Eddie Izzard, Richard Kind and Miles Marsico. The Wild is interesting enough for adults, but just not as good as some of the other animated features out there at the moment.

Critically slammed for being a 'Madagascar' rip-off, this fun little piece of animation is made all the more watchable by an awesome voice cast. Family friendly and packed with smile inducing moments, there's plenty to love for both adults and children, unfortunately you just can...( read more)'t help but think about how often this type of thing has been done before. The CGI itself is interesting as it leans more toward the lifelike than most animation. Don't miss Eddie Izzards adorable koala and William Shatners crazy wildebeest. Fun stuff!

Claudia Puig, USA Today

The Wild may just be the most wildly derivative animated movie in ages. full review

Kyle Smith, New York Post

These films take years to produce, so The Wild isn't exactly a ripoff -- but it isn't exactly fun, either. full review

Liam Lacey, Globe and Mail

As far as story is concerned, the whole thing feels like a rerun of a raucous Saturday-morning television show aimed at hell-raising five-year-olds. full review

Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

The movie has a lot more action than Ice Age: The Meltdown, which was essentially one long trek. full review

Ty Burr, Boston Globe

This is a movie to make you cherish Pixar all the more; where every pixel and plot turn in Finding Nemo snaps organically into place, The Wild strains just to get to the end of a scene. full review

Colin Covert, The Minneapolis Star Tribune

It's a funny, compassionate, emotionally engaging movie that prompts both laughs and a lump in the throat. full review

There's something foul about this latest animated adventure's blatant plush toy-ready construction. full review

I kind of like this movie. It was cute and sure it was similar to Madagascar and a lot of other Disney films- the Lion King, to name one. There were plenty of scenes that were coppies of that... But! Who's to say its not the other way around. Now I am not blaming anyone, but whos to say that Dreamworks didn't get some kind of memo that Disney was making a film called The Wild and it was about animals escaping the zoo. Who to say Dreamworks didn't copy Disney- who cares if theirs came out first? Theirs was also not as well animated as Disneys- maybe while Disney was fixing up the animation, Dreamworks sent theirs out with the ok for a kid's film, but frustratingly inacurate animation... But, whatever! I enjoyed this film, and while the begining was like Madagascar, the ending was nothing like it! And, the story line between the father and son, I thought that was rather excellent! Personally, I really enjoyed this movie! The humor could have been more kid friendly, but otherwise...
