  • October 31, 2009
some good songs - "ease on down" and "brand new day". some good characters - michael jackson, nipsey, and ted ross. however, diana ross seemed really old. the overall feeling is dark and dirty, and a lot of songs are long and slow and drag on. can see some foreshadowing of mi...( read more)chael's later dance moves.

i thought it was a pretty good remake of the original version and including a few twists and new featuers to the movie, i did think it was a bit long though it would have been better it if was a bit shorter, and it was different seeing it played by an all black cast which was goo...( read more)d and michael jackson made a good scarecrow

I can see the appeal of this musical and it was a good twist on such a famous story, but for some reason it didn't speak to me.

I know what everyone is thinking. But fracking frack! I watched this movie again for the first time in about 20 years and I LOVED it! And it's not just because of dead MJ. Or dead RIchard Pryor. But I love the costumes and the bizarre creatures, and the AMAZING music! It's ...( read more)the first musical in a while where I can't get the songs out of my head! I might have to go buy this one. Keep in mind though, this is a version of the Wizard of Oz that's over 2 hours long.

Such a sweet movie! It must have been so fun to make. The music was darling; kudos to Quincy Jones for that one, made me want to dance! The sets and the costumes were lovely. Happy to see Diana Ross and Michael Jackson in a movie together! Michael did a fantastic job (glad to see...( read more) his spins included when he danced!) and Diana Ross was so cute.

  • July 30, 2009
This is basically like the ghetto version of "The Wizard of Oz." Some words came to mind while watching this like funky, psychadelic, and bizzare. It's quite an elaborate production for sure. I was in awe of the sets and costumes. It was fun to watch and Michael Jackson was reall...( read more)y cute in it.

  • July 27, 2009
A Motown production, got some nice songs here too. Michael Jackson is so young here! This was before he teamed up with Quincy to make Off the Wall... loved him as the scarecrow.

Dorothy (Diana) is caught up in a cyclone when she chases her dog. She ends up in the urban version of Oz. Michael Jackson plays the scarecrow.
  • July 11, 2009
seen a the beginning of it but never would have suspected MICHEAL JACKSON in it!!!
  • July 10, 2009
The acting was a bit rough around the edges but overall a great message and feel good music!!!
  • July 9, 2009
It's cheesy and not as good as the original wizard of oz. But still a fun movie to watch..it's amazing to watch this movie--it had a lot of big name greats!! I loved MJ of course! :)
My favorite line is by Richard Pryor= to the lion "what can I do for you, you overstuffed animal...( read more) cracker?"

I read someone else's comments on the Wiz that I totally disagree on and would like to comment on. Someone said that the film was racist and that only black people appeared in the movie. That is very untrue. The movie has a mixture of both black AND white people, and if you think...( read more) about it,in the origional "wizard of oz" I don't recall seeing any black people in that movie at all. I love "The Wiz" because it took "The Wizard of Oz" to a more interesting level. It was set in New York, it kept the storyline of the origional and adjusted it in different ways which I thought worked very well ! My favourite character is the scarecrow (played by Michael Jackson) because he suited the part perfectly !! Being the sweet, shy and kind person that he is. I think he really brings the film to life, and I'm constantly rewinding the part of the film with him and the crows! He's adorable!. R.I.P Michael Jackson (1958-2009)
  • June 29, 2009
It still my childhood favorite movie
  • June 28, 2009
This movie was a favorite when I was a shortie and still is. I wish I had a copy of it and I woul put it in right, ecspecially since I am in mourning for the one who is no longer with us...Micheal Joseph Jackson. RIP 1958-2009

    miichaeellll!!! no !!!dont die!!!
  • June 26, 2009
It was bizarre but I liked it; I really like Mabel King a lot, almost as much as I like Margaret Hamilton.
  • June 26, 2009
Horrifying and suspenseful. Great music and great performances by Michael Jackson and Ted Ross. However, the film is poorly edited and Diana Ross, despite her ambitious performance, is far too old for the part.
  • June 17, 2009
random as hell take on the wizard of oz story, tries so hard to be different it loses sight of the core morales that made the original a success. Its worth a watch for some odd quirky laughs but mostly its dissapointing.
  • June 11, 2009
SEEN BITS OF IT I'M JACKSON'S NUMBER 1 FAN SO I'LL WATCH IT
  • June 6, 2009
The "black" version of OZ. Scared the heck outta me when I was little.
  • April 22, 2009
Hmmm, but the original is still the best . . .
  • March 29, 2009
Gotta get on down, get on down the roaaaa-ohhhd.
  • March 26, 2009
hmmm. Hard to review this film as I got bored within the first five minutes. I thought the whole storyline was pointless. They should just leave the Wizard of oz alone I don't think there could ever be a better version then the original with Judy Garland!
  • March 13, 2009
