An renowed & beloved family classic that forever defined the family entertainment genre. Little ones may be scared the first time by the flying monkeys, but will enjoy the whole 2 hours of this family classic.

the greatest musical ever made, uh, science fiction, uh, fantasy, uh, romance, uh, oh...nevermind, this one's essential americiana for the baby boomer set and it's resonance resonates far more than my poor command of the language can give justice to. let's just enjoy!

We're off to see the Wizard! Has anyone seen this dozens of times and not loved it every time? There's no place like home.
UPDATE:
Re: 70th Anniversary Hi-Def Theatrical Release --
I am torn on how to review this -- from my brain or my heart? So, I'll do both.

A classic film based on the classic fairytale that pushed the boundaries of filmmaking at the time.

Classic musical in which Judy Garland was brought to the screen. A brilliant debut for the actress but it is this role that she will always be remembered for. Great songs like Follow the Yellow Brick Road and Over The Rainbow will be favourites for many years.

This is definitely a childhood favorite. When I was little, I used to turn it when it go to the wicked witch part, but now I can make it through that part now with ease & enjoy the movie.

August 12, 2009It's a classic film, but i don't love it as much as i used to when i was younger. For years i wanted Ruby slippers and a scarecrow for a friend, never happened though. I think ive bin influenced by the musical 'Wicked' towards this film, i just can't watch the melting scene in the same light again without shouting "no, elphie!" and by default, i now call the dog Dodo. I think the wonder has worn off over the years, but i must admit, the scene where Glinda comes down in the bubble is by far the best scene in the film! That, and where the tree's throw the apples. :D

July 6, 2008It is in a very real sense a different movie all its own and it has become known as "Dark Side of the Rainbow" and quite literally the rating that I have given to this movie is much more for Dark Side of the Rainbow & only a crumb of the whole rating belongs to The Wizard of Oz. The movie by itself & on its own, however, I find to be to long, boring, and just a general waste of my time. From what I understand the runtime for this movie was about 101 minutes & 112 minutes for the US version. Well, this movie must've been exceptionally terrible, since I remember falling asleep during the movie, wondering why it was such a long and terrible movie, desperately wanting it to be over!

July 6, 2008I developed a new found respect for this movie when it became known that Pink Floyd adapted their album "Dark Side of the Moon" as a soundtrack for this movie. In a sense, this album adapted to this movie changes this movie and makes it more poignant and imaginative than the movie, or its creators, could ever have hoped that it would be on it's own. Pink Floyd has never admitted to doing such a thing except for perhaps, in a way, Roger, who stays quiet when asked.

March 15, 2008I have probably watched this movie at least once for every year of my life and a few times in between. I saw it not so much as dark but as there is hope if you look inside yourself. I most recently saw this movie in the theater which made me see things in it that I had not seen before. It's a classic for all time and "Over the Rainbow" is probably one of the best loved classic songs ever. I never tire of seeing the Wizard of Oz.

March 13, 2008HAHAHA I have the Return to Oz movie and its not scary atall its weird but in a cute way. I love the wizard of oz movie, and the return to oz movie is ok but I would not recommend it to children under the age of 5. But other than that I love both movies
