wow it's almost like fans of wrestling and hair metal are the same species as us. it got too sentimental and predictable in the middle but i'm sure glad they didn't cop out on the ending

Eh, the acting was great - Tomei and Rourke really did kick ass, I was genuinely pleased to see a stripper painted in such a human light (instead of the usual gawking omg stripper! portrayals usually churned out) but while it painted a sad picture, I still didn't feel like I knew...( read more) the characters well enough (although maybe that everyman thing was part of the point but bahhumbug I don't buy it!) and it just seemed like oh wow, another piece of art about the pain of being washed up and sticking with antiquated dreams... please, create something new, don't rehash what's been done ad nauseum.

The Wrestler was a drama around an aging professional wrestler Randy "the Ram" played by Mickey Rourke. But it was much more than that. You don't have to be a fan of wrestling to enjoy this movie. Mickey Rourke was extraordinary here and he broke my heart. Now I understood his n...( read more)omination for this role, which he should have won the award. The Wrestler was surely one of the most emotional movie of last year, it was honest and very realistic.Rourke was the star here, he carried the movie. The Ram was a fighter, trying to maintain the success of his past.It was a master piece from a brilliant director.

What a fantastic movie and a great performance by Mickey Rourke as a washed up wrestler who was big in the 80's and still plying his trade on the indie circuit. When he gets a heart attack after a match and the doctor advises him not to wrestle anymore as it could kill him, he tr...( read more)ies to lead a normal life. Try as he might, it's a struggle and the lure of getting back into the ring is strong. I'm just wondering if this movie is loosely based on former WWE superstar Jake 'The Snake Roberts' life as the plot in this movie mirrors what was seen in the documentary Beyond The Mat years ago. It's also a great insight into the world of pro wrestling, what goes on behind the scenes. Although the story is quite bleak, I loved this movie and thoroughly recommend it.

A spectacular view into the "is it real, is it not?" world of wrestling, in which a faded 80's wrestling legend (Mickey Rourke) still does the sport in a localized, low-brow form. After suffering a heart attack after a match, however, he realizes he needs to get his life back on ...( read more)track and make amends with his grown-up daughter (Evan Rachel Wood) while also still in love with an aging stripper (Marisa Tomei). A normal life isn't really all iot's cracked up to be for him though, and at the long term risk of his health, decides to stage a rematch with an old rival from his heyday. Rourke was on spectacular form in this movie, proving he is the real comeback actor of this decade, winning a Bafta and a Golden Globe for his performance but sadly missing out on the hattrick, losing out on what would have been a deserved Oscar. It's one of the best movies of the year, a must see for everyone, whether they're wrestling fans or not.
