Sure this has been done but the way this was filmed was very effective and creepy. Not a horror that relied on shock gore. But for more intense and creepy camera work.

The horror film genre lacks of decent representations of grueling/frightening spirit.Ils is a profound exception to the 21st "slashing" century rule, every corner is a heartbeat and along with The Descent, you care for the characters, you are not ignorant like a Resident Evil gore.

Them got alot of terrific reviews saying it was this horrifying movie, and in my opinion it wasnt all that horrifying. Now dont get me wrong here it was a good movie. It had good acting, good suspense, good plot. But thats just it, it was just a "good" movie. Not the "scariest movie in the past decade", or "One of the years best horror films". Them is your basic home invasion horror film with a twist. It revolves around suspense, noices, sounds, and acting more than any actual gore. So if your looking for a bloodfest kind of movie then stay away from this. But if your looking for a keep you on the edge of your seat thriller then I would dephenitly say check this one out. Them in my opinion was highly overated and only delivered in some parts of the movie not as a whole film. So I would say check this out but dont go in with high hopes.

"It's hard to come across a modern day horror film and find anything other than gore. With films like Hostel and Saw and their sequels it seems that filmmakers nowadays think that only copious amounts of blood makes a film scary. Well, let me tell you, it's getting a little tiresome, actually a lot tiresome, and it's great to see a film like Them which fully realises this. "

This movie was not the least bit scary to me. The Strangers was way scarier. I don't care that "Them" is based on a "supposedly" true story. I looked everywhere for it and there's nothing that comes even close to what these directors described. I understand that most horror movies "based" on a true incident are far fetched to begin with, but this being based on a "true case" could've been the only thing to save this movie, and make it even remotely scary. "The Strangers" comes closer to a true incident than this does. The "Keddie Cabin Murders(www.cabin28.com)", although not thoroughly explained in The Strangers story wise, is a completely and utterly frightening tale. At the end of "Them" it explains that one of the "actual" killers did this evil deed simply because, and they quote "They wouldn't play with us". Scary right? One good thing this movie had going for it. Well I thought so too only if that were true. I later found out that the whole ending was fabricated by the directors. Again, not saying that this "true story" label being a lie is what makes this movie so bad. It's just that only if it were really "true" would I look at this bore fest in a different light, but on the contrary it's still a sloppy mess on the surface. No real thrills, no nail-biting suspense, not even a good build up. Yes it's true, the acting was good and there's some pretty decent atmosphere, but story wise this blows. As a director it's your job to tell a story through particular shot choices and keep the movie at a certain pace. No matter how many good actors or directors of photography you have, it's up to the director to be able to carry all of this material well. This movie had a lot of prime key elements, and it could've been something really good, but it was just executed very poorly. Nothing here was even convincing enough to send real chills, and to be "truly" scary it must be very believable(I partly blame the lame "sewer ending" for destroying that part). Anyways stick to The Strangers. A much better movie in every way possible.

Really good tense thriller, reminded me of a whole movie devoted to a killer chase scene from an Argento film. It was tense, however, Lucas has to be the worst male protector ever, I swear subtlety and quietness isn't his strong point. Watch this with the lights off and the sound cranked. The atmosphere of dread was well delivered. The ending came either too long or too short of where it should have been, but that's a mild gripe. Overall, a high recommendation.

A movie that really creeped *me* out at points and also has virtually NO BLOOD in it. This has been recommended to me many times, and I can see why as it is so tightly edited and directed for real jumpscare flair, not cheap out-of-nowhere jumpscares, but those really good ones where you anticipate the jump scare to come at a particular moment and the film then fucks with your head by doing the jumpscare just a little after or before the expected effect. I also love the "look what we snuck into the shot" moments, where a subtle element you may not recognize at first is soon identified as a hooded intruder or attacking limb. I know this is a great horror movie, because throughout it, I am earnestly thinking of how I would react (first thought revealed my American bias: 'where are these people's shotguns and revolvers?') though I can't relate to the victims on any superficial levels (besides the guy being a writer). SPOLIER People tout the ending as a "twist"; it's not but rather an interesting detail that makes the story even scarier and reveals to the audience their own ageist biases.

The first hour is surprisingly unsettling (I've had nightmares like that), but the surprise twist in the end totally ruins the mood.

I've got this great idea for a movie -we'll start off by having a mother and daughter bitching at each other in a car right- Then, we'll have mum look away for a moment, then, when she looks back, there's someone in the road -she'll spin the wheel an...(read more) d the car'll go off the road-oh did I mention it's a lonely road- -cos that's important see..then she'll get out and promptly disappear. Then daughter'll get out, and when she gets back in, there's someone on the back seat . Get the picture? Ok..how about-lets have nice middle class couple Clémentine and Lucas living in a decrepit and improbably palatial mansion, it's the middle of the night, -there's a crash from downstairs..he goes to investigate, telling her to wait in the bedroom and lock the door. Ooops, -the lights have gone off-oops -he's got a spike in his leg-let's have him limp about through the rest of the movie-Oh look-they're being chased through an assortment of rooms/attics/woods/tunnels by shadowy assailants. She screams, He limps, She screams some more, He limps some more. She suffers, He suffers, but not as much as the audience suffer.
After an hour or so of screaming/limping/Suffering, a strange reversal takes hold- the shadowy pursuers become our friends -they are only seeking to free us from the tedious company of Clémentine and Lucas. Lucas gets his leg spiked -we cheer, Clémentine is captured by 'them' we punch the air in joy. At one point it looks as though our tormenters are going to escape-now there's real tension in the air...
On the plus side, at only 77 minutes, it won't feel as though you've lost a significant portion of your life. . The movie has a tastefully high contrast /under saturated look, which is complemented by the wobbly hand-held camerawork, and the actors scream/limp & suffer gamely.
How they pitched this movie is a mystery to me -maybe it was the 'twist' (I shan't bore you) maybe it's because it's supposedly based on a 'true story' (it isn't) or, just maybe the backers had never seen a horror movie -or any movie before.

This supposedly foreign (french) movie has blown me away, just like the Spanish ghost movie The Orphange. The surprise elements were amazing. The filmakers made ordinary noises sound so terrifying! The acting was impressive, especially from Olivia Bonamy. The effects were great. But what scared the heck outta me and disturbed me so much was who THEM turned out to be in the end! Definetely a must-see!

Grainy digital photography highlights this French survival thriller as a couple are assailed in the middle of the night by a hooded group of murderers. The premise is quite familiar (Night of the Living Dead, Straw Dogs, Inside(French), and Assault on Precinct 13 all tread similar ground)but this time the style of the film is the only interesting aspect. The picture simply does not offer much more than well-crafted atmosphere and above-average acting (for the horror genre). European thrillers are generally worthwhile for the very that they do not sacrifice character for style, but the story here is undercooked and overly-familiar.
Though, because the actors are likely unfamiliar to an American audience, their fates are not going to be as obvious and pandering as inbig budget Hollywood horror.

Them is a perfect example of a movie that has a terrifying first scene that's followed by a somewhat average horror movie.

I got to see the free Screening for Them presented by Fangoria in New York.I had a feeling i was not gonna be thrill by this film.

If you find loud noises & all sort of noises spooky without seeing what it is & then people running around in panic but still not knowing was chasing them then it could be your type of film once it gets tours the end you will find out what's going on & to me what a waste of my time.
