This movie doesn't give you that warm Disney feeling, but I love the M.C. Escher-esque environments and The Thief remains one of my favorite animated characters, ever.

This movie is sick, and by sick I mean totally great, not gross or unhealthy. That's all I have to say about it really, you should watch it, but not the Ferris Bueller edition, because Ferris Bueller sounds like an idiot.

This rating is for the original unfinished version only. I have never seen the horrendous official release, and God willing, I'll never have to. It's tragic that this film was never completed the way the director intended, seeing as it was supposed to be his masterpiece (he spent nearly thirty years working on it, the longest any film has ever been in production). It would have been fantastic, I'm sure; the story is charming and the animation is some of the best I've ever seen. You can see the film for yourself the way it was intended to be seen on YouTube and Google Video. ...Oh, and The Thief and the Cobbler is not a rip-off of Aladdin. It's the other way around.

I know alot of people HATE this movie because of it being ruined compared to the original vision. But I still like it as a stand alone project. I know it's pretty much impossible to even hope that the origional will be restored, but if it ever was, I'd be one of the first to snatch it up.

This is for the bootlegged original cut that is incomplete. The edited is a piece of crap with bad intrusive voice overs and ridiculous songs. Search for the 'real' version on Google Video. You won't be disappointed.

WARNING: There are TWO different versions of this movie. The director's cut Richard Williams originally envisioned and the fucked-up version put together by some hack director hired by the completion bond company that took over the movie when Williams failed to complete it on time. Unfortunately only the later is available commercially, the former being an uncompleted workprint, with parts of it still in pencil test, animatic or storyboard forms (Currently there's a fan made "Recobbled Cut" available on the net, but I haven't seen it yet). Nonetheless the original version is amazing even in its unfinished state. Williams spent roughly 30 years working on this movie, painstakingly working and refining every single frame, the result is a masterpiece that rivals, if not surpass Disney's best efforts.

it's sad that they couldn't put the original together the way it was meant to be originally, and it's even sadder that a lot of the original artists that had worked on the project signed with disney and distilled it into Aladdin, which unfortunately came out before they managed to finish this project.

I saw this movie as a little kid, forgot about it, and watched it again this summer. Thief and the Cobbler is a lot more than what it seems - it's a shame it was rushed at the end. Even though we'll probably never see Richard Williams' true vision, I still love this movie. The animation is beautifully fluid and the detail is astounding.

I son't know if this is the one that i love. apparently the australian version, the princess and the cobbler, is different. and less lamed up from the original. or maybe arabian nights is the real crap one. i can't remember.

What you should do is this. Find the fanmade "Recobbled" edition and you will see what is perhaps the closest possible cut of what Richard Williams had intended for this film to look. Because upon seeing that, it proves that this is one of the greatest animated features of all-time.

If you look clse, you can imagaine what Richard William's orginal version of this would have been like, and it would have been a 5 star movie.
