A fun hyper-edited spooky action pic. A cool house with variety of freaky ghosts captured in glass cases; it's freaky death when some of them escape. Instead of offering the same ghost viewer gimmick the original 1960 version had, the makers had quick almost-subliminal flashes of...( read more) the appartions, which left an eerie after-effect. I liked how the characters still needed special glasses to see the ghosts. All thirteen ghosts were wonderfully envisioned with live actors in costume and makeup, without the need for CGI, although some was used on the victims for the gorey body-slicing effects. I wish each ghost was given more detail, I hardly caught their names and specialties. Matthew Lillard played a weird psychic character. I didn't understand if Uncle Cyrus (F. Murray Abraham) was a ghost or human at the end because they were seeing him without the glasses. The little boy with his morbid curiosity was funny.

Not a very clever story and not a very good film.

Creepy as fuckin hell... I know, I know, it's really awful with terrible acting and a stupid screenplay but you can't deny it's technically perfect! Art direction and make up is larger-than-life and it works: I didn't sleep for an entire week after seeing this.

Angry Princes...( read more)s still gives me some bad dreams... I'm such a dork...

I like this movie for it's sheer entertainment value. It's nowhere near being very smart or scary, but a great cast and actually creepy and well done ghosts make this movie pretty entertaining.
Lillard is always a favorite of mine and yet again plays a good eccentric, crazy char...( read more)acter. Shalhoub and the rest of cast do a good job as well, but the real talent is the group that played the ghosts. They manage to be extremely creepy and most of the time all they do is stand there!
The story is a nice remake of the original and is defintly more entertaining for a modern audience. Good characters and a decent twist towards the end makes the film watchable.
The makeup effects are the most impressive though, because the ghosts look amazing and will actually scare most people.
If your thinking about seeing this movie then don't take it too seriously, but don't think it's a laugh a minute either. It's what a movie should be. Full of entertainment and worth watching a few times.

"There are ghosts in the basement!"
    "This basement?"
"Of course this basement! What is it with you people? If it was the basement next door I wouldn't give a s***, would I?"

    Relentlessly stupid and pointless.

    Bad acting as well.
