Very little plot but a passable 50's sci-fi movie all the same. The fx is ok but the acting is under par. I love 50s sci-fi movies so I can sit through this and kinda enjoy it. For most people though this movie is just utter crap and it's well worth it's place on MST3K.
Not actually terrible, but it's kind of imbalanced. As though it were a short story and the writer realized he was approaching the word limit a bit too late. Decent effects, though, and the acting wasn't even distractingly hammy.
being 50s sci-fi, you know straight off you're not in for an academy-award winner. the special effects were surprisingly impressive, but the rest of the film fits right into the genre mold--mediocre acting, laughable pseudo-serious script, anti-nuclear sentiment, intellectually superior but still surprisingly human aliens...certainly not outstanding by any leaps and bounds, but it is a definitive classic of Cold War-era science fiction.
lol, I don't think I'd be able to watch this without the Mystery Science Theater commentary. Actually, I recommend you make your way through this version, THEN watch the Mystery Science Theater version! Definately worth the double viewing, I promise!
cheesy yet always fun to watch sci-fi from the war of the worlds era. especially interesting for the metalunian mutants towards the end. must've been a bit creepy in its day as the creepiness still lasts a little now despite its age. very well done to the whole team who made this. it took two and a half years
MST3K Alert! This movie was chosen for the theatrical release of the MST3K Movie, and a fine choice it was. A classic in the sci-fi film vaults, it's both loved and ready for some poking.
This movie was actually pretty good, for a 50s-era sci fi flick. I was surprised it was chosen for MST3K: The Movie, but I love the spoofing of the movie as much as I do the original movie.
