  Easily one of the best looking Marvel movies so far. I was never a big Thor fan in the comics but this movie had me locked in. Overall i think this movie shines thanks to Hemsworh, Hiddleston the supportin cast. It takes its place among the top super hero films Marvel has done now that they are in control.

  And to think, I never used to much care for superheroes. The only thing I can think of that I didn't like about this film was how they made Asgaard another planet (I think), rather than an alternate terrestrial plane or something. I really love the elements that drive this story: the classic imperialistic bloodlust that typifies all famous mythological warriors is what leads the characters to create problems for themselves, and Thor can really only grow and mature as a character once he gets past it. I was really impressed how they succeeded in making Thor seem really alien on Earth, which is really hard to do to handsome humanoid characters. My favorite element, among many gems, was definitely Loki. He is really far from a one-dimensional villain; he's got depth, motivation and a real heart, so much so that there were times I found myself rooting for him. You can tell you've got a good thing going when it seems like a shame for either side to prevail over the other in the end. If anyone understands how vital it is to have a strong villain it's Kenneth Branaugh, a man who's excelled in the past by playing Iago onscreen. Even the Forst Giants were interesting. What a wonderful film.

  I only really watched this because I wanted to know the characters before watching The Avengers, and as soon as the brilliant space visuals came up on screen I wished I had seen this in the cinema (and then when Loki showed up I definitely kicked myself!). As an introduction film it did great. I really got a sense of who these characters were and there were some really great funny bits but overall I think it was slightly too long which was annoying. It boasts a brilliant cast which really paid off however when Jane and Thor kiss... That was awful. It was so obvious they really weren't into it and were doing a stage kiss and it ruined the moment.

  An entertaining if largely forgettable and very familiar story of a should-be king (Chris Hemsworth) cast down into exile after starting a war in the distant realm of Asgard. While Hemsworth turns in an admirable portrayal of the demigod, the movie's Shakespearean tone, while an interesting selection, grows tired by halfway through. The special effects are, as expected, outstanding, and the acting is relatively good, but the film contains a hollow center where we don't truly care about Thor or the rest of the characters as much as we probably should. Overall, it falls into the same category of "Captain America" as okay but not good/great, spectacular in spurts but totally missable. Wait to see Thor in action in the super fun "The Avengers".

  So, I am going to see "The Avengers" this Friday. No matter what. And it occurred to me that I hadn't seen "Thor" or "Captain America" (I haven't seen "The Incredible Hulk" in its entirety, but no offense to Bruce Banner, I haven't exactly felt the urge to seek it out). I realized that I needed to cram them in before I went and saw "The Avengers", starting with "Thor" followed by "Captain America." So, how was Thor? Pretty good. Not "Iron Man", but certainly better than "Iron Man 2." It has the hardest job of all the Avenger films by far. Narcissistic playboy that constructs power armor? Seems legit. A super soldier project from WW2 thawed out from the ice? I'll roll with it. A man who transforms into a green monster when he's mad? Getting kind of out there. A Norse god come to Earth with ALL of the previously mentioned characters all existing in the same universe somehow? WHAT? As you can see, Thor was the weirdest gamble of the Avengers crew by far, and they pulled it off. The plot is very basic, but the characters are plenty enjoyable and there are some clever twists (however, before the movie pats itself on the back, the ending "surprise" isn't even close to surprising, and one fakeout by the movie is pretty obvious towards the end). The risky gamble has certainly paid off though. Overall, it's good fun, and you can do far worse.

  THOR is entertaining as all hell, and Chris Hemsworth really brings a likeable personality to his character. This film has the perfect run time needed and the visuals were stunning, and although the action was awesome, is was a bit unbalanced. There is an opening action scene that is far too big to just be an introduction to the mighty character, because after that sequence, all you want is more of that, which you never get, but small sprinkles of action throughout the film. That being said, the summer movie season is off to a fantastic start. THOR has been banished to earth, and I couldn't imagine a better time the movies than watching someone learn what everything is while I also watch a superhero find his powers. In short, I highly recommend this summer popcorn flick to all superhero fans. I went it clueless about the THOR character, but I came out with my mind in Asguard! This thunderous movie is a great kick-off for the summer movie season. Although the action lags a bit, and Kat Dennings is annoying as hell, the story is fantastic, the visuals are amazing, the characters are likeable, it's funny, and it is a must see. THOR DELIVERS

Chris Hemsworth is fantastic as "Thor" and Newcomer Tom Hiddleston as the Brilliant Villain "Loki"(Who will feature in the upcoming film "The Avengers" and the Thor Sequel.) The Film doesn't feel as Epic and on a large scale as previous Marvel films but Thor is still a great summer superhero film.

  The production design, top to bottom, is spectacular, and unlike some of the Marvel movies, Thor doesn't significantly bog down in origin story, (perhaps because little had to happen, he just fell to Earth). The backstory is intriguing, as is his arrival on Earth and what that means to an unsuspecting small town in New Mexico. Take excellent casting - Anthony Hopkins, what? - and opulent direction by Branagh, (which isn't the movie's only similarity to Hamlet), and combine it with big action and effects to make a highly watchable summer popcorn movie. I still probably won't go near Thor 2, but this one was totally worth seeing. Pure entertainment.

  An incredibly entertaining movie. This movie expertly captivates audiences in the character development of Thor. Action is lacking any sort of entertainment value, 80% of the shots that are done in this movie have this "tilt" to the camera that makes one wanna tilt their head so that they can see clearly, and much of the things that works in this movie has been taken from much better superhero movies, but one cannot deny that this is an entertaining movie that teaches good themes.

  This, the 4th entry into the Marvel Films canon takes on the mythological figure reconfigured into a superhero known as Thor- the Norse God of Thunder. I've never been big into Thor, but I've got no problems with him either, and the mixing of mythology with comic book fun is fine by me. At first I was skeptical of Kenneth Branagh directing a big budget ocmic book film, especially given his resume, but when I heard he was doing Thor, I got a little less skeptical, given how the Thor source material seems not far off from Branagh's sensibilities and roots in Shakespeare. That, and it helps that Branagh admitted having an interest in the source material at some point in his life prior to making the movie. The film basically is a two fold stroy (with both parts intertwined) involving both a move for political power and control in the ethereal realm of Asgard, and the fish out of water story on Earth which sees Thor banished there and forced to seek redemption after insubordination. Not only does Thor have to regain his stripped power and learn a lesson, he's got to find a way to restore the upset balance back in his home world. I liked the films mix of the two things, despite that the storylines in and of themselves aren't entirely free of cliche, contrivance, or unexplained details (What exactly is going on with the Odin coma thing?). Iffiness of the script and story aside, this is a fine addition ot the growing Marvel Canon, and just a fun little adventure film in its own right. I liked that the characters were flawed and had depth to them and obstacles to deal with. I loved the art direction, costumes, and set design, especially where Asgard and Jotunheim are concerned. The special effects were pretty decent as well, and there's all kinds of great stuff to stare at and admire. The action scenes are decent, though sometimes (especially the early battle with the Frost Giants) things are a bit too dark and murky, making it hard to tell what is going on at times. That aside, this is a good film, and thigns move along quite nicely. Chris Hemsworth is a perfect choice for Thor, and he brings the right amount of chraisma, doubt, and confusion, and the fish out of water stuff is a joy to watch due to how well he sells it. Natalie Portman is decent as scientific researcher Jane Foster who falls in love with Thor while trying to help him and understand his situation. Stellan Skarsgard is good as Jane's colleague Dr. Erik Selvig, but it is Kat Dennings who really shines as Jane's assistant Darcy, who is wonderful in a very fun Scooby-Doo sidekick type of role. Most of the comic relief (and there's a fair amount) comes from her, and that's not a problem at all. Anthony Hopkins is epic as Odin, and Tom Hiddleston is decent as the deceitful and jealous Loki, though Renee Russo, Ray Stevenson, and Idris Elba all could have been given more to do. To make up for it though are some decent cameos, though the post credits scene, while okay, really doesn't seem all that great or special. Overall, this is an enjoyable and decent movie, though not quite as good (I think) as Iron Man or The Incredible Hulk. Still though, it's a blast to watch, even if it falls a little short of being terrific.

Having said that, I'm now going to go into actual comment posting mode, so here I go. <p>First, Walter, I'm not going to even attempt to figure out if you've seen this movie already since I no longer can go down the page to see what friends have said, but if you haven't seen this one, and if you're looking for something good to see right now -- this is not as funny as <i>Horrible Bosses.</i> Having said that, it does in fact have many funny moments -- just maybe not so guys-night-out laugh-out-loud funny as <i>Horrible Bosses.</i>. I think this is due not only to the script writing, but to Branagh helming the whole project. <p>Oh, Walter, I should add that if you haven't guessed it from some of my early comments over the past nearly six years, I'm half Norwegian, and my mom's name translated into English means "daughter of Thor." So I advertise my possible prejudices right up front. <p>But back to the heart of the matter: this movie. I think that Branagh -- who I know you know is on my all-time favorite directors list -- is stunning yet again. He brings to this movie a kind of . . . Shakepearianism -- which isn't a real word, but it captures my critical sense, so it's a good one to use. In essence, Branagh takes a comic book character and story, and by virtue of an innately awesome talent he possesses unlike anyone in history who's tried to bring Shakespeare to the screen -- with the possible exception of Zeffirelli -- which has been demonstrated in almost every movie he's ever directed -- he amazingly and artfully launches <i>Thor</i> in some borderline miracle way into the realm of Shakespeare. Two huge stars for that. <p> Walter, you know me well. Why oh why does he have to hurt, possibly disable for life, and maybe even kill people when he goes for the hammer? This I do not like; this I do not understand. But I'm not going to subtract stars for this -- which I normally would -- because the payoff is the "funny" fact that he can't pull the hammer from the stone. I mean, even Jerry Seinfeld would undoubtedly agree that this is at least ironic. At this point in the movie, he is no King Arthur pulling Excalibur from the stone, right? It's minimally Seinfeldian ironic funny<p> But enough. I would hate to give away too much of the movie if you or anyone who wants to read this hasn't seen it yet.. Let me just say, Walter, that if you saw <i>The Green Lantern</i> -- I think that came out about the same time -- this is WAY better . . . the half Norwegian dude whose mom's name means daughter of Thor said enthusiastically. <p>Bottom line, Walter: If you haven't see it, take a chance on it. Even if you're not Norwegian, you might like it. <p>Further in this meta comment realm -- which I'm pretty much going to adopt from now on: Do you have any you can rec for me right now? <p> Walter, by the way, I don't know who Kat Dennings is, but I've added her to my now world-famous list of potential wives.   I was a big fan of the Thor comics when I was younger, before I discovered 2000AD. It's because I'm so familiar with the comics that I can appreciate that this was never going to be able to be the new Batman. That's the thing with the Avengers films, the comics are a bit crap. Ironman did so well because the comics were improved on in the film - something that most superhero films born from comic characters fail to do. Seriously, who read the Ironman comics? Thor had a little bit more to prove as he has a bigger fan base; he is a great character but with a very difficult story as far as tying in with the other characters/films. Based on that criteria, they did well. It also warranted the humour it contained but I can see why some didn't favour it. The problem is that the story is so simple, there really isn't anything to grab you. The acting was pretty good, Chris Hemsworth was perfect casting as Thor but for me Portman grated a little. I'm not sure all the CGI suited Kenneth Branagh's directing style either and as for the editing, it's very obvious that a lot made it to the cutting room floor as to much of what we don't see is referenced. Thor - directors cut anyone? Anyway, it did the job and set the scene. It was entertaining enough and I'm sure the second one will be better. Captain America and the Avengers had better be good though because to be brutally honest, this should have been better considering all the hype!

  Marvel does it again, with a Fantasy movie and an atmosphere to it I haven't seen in fantasy for a long time. Thor, while building up to the Avengers, keeps it's distance, expanding on Thors Past and explaining his connection to earth and his origins. The script is full of wonderful cheesy dialogue, but at the same time a wonderful story which is told perfectly through Kenneth Branaghs vision, and a cast of mostly unknown who proved themselves, with spectacular performances by Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, Thor and Loki. This movie is only beaten by X-Men First Class and Captain America, but it is definitely a must see adventure. and don't forget to stay after the credits for a little treat.

  Fast paced, entertaining, and at times quite hilarious. This movie tends to be cheesy and in the end to rushed to develop any of the genuine emotion that the movie tries to portray. Thor might be the weakest of the characters joining the avengers. Not sure how the theology and godly aspects of Thor are going to mesh with the scientific backgrounds of the much more dynamic Iron Man, Captain America, and even The Hulk.

Possibly the best film to watch in Blu-Ray.
