Thumbsucker

Benjamin Bratt, Chase Offerle, Keanu Reeves, Kelli Garner, Kit Koenig

Dubbed "the King Kong of oral obsessives" by his hippie dentist, Justin Cobb is a 16-year-old desperate to find a way to break this embarrassing habit he has retained since infancy. His father, a form...( read more  read more... )er football star, tries to help by providing an antidotal cayenne-pepper cream and a healthy dose of fly-fishing. His mother, who works as a nurse helping the rich and famous sober up, seems more concerned with a fantasy romantic relationship with TV-star Don Johnson than with her son's problems. Hypnosis seems to work, but the problem surfaces in other forms from drug addiction to alcoholism.

A sweet little indie with a great soundtrack. Keanu Reeves still can?t act to save his life though!

Although the movie starts out silly, I really liked how the story evolves into a very identifiable subject; the desire to change. And what is it that makes it so hard to just communicate with our parents, God, am I glad I'm not seventeen anymore!

Fun movie about growing up in a messed up world. I laugh every time the kids throws up the sign with the wolf at Keanu Reeves.

16 year old Justin Cobb is struggling. He keeps to himself, sucks his thumb, strikes out with his girlfriend. He tries cayenne pepper, hypnosis, Ritalin and street drugs to attempt to solve his problems.

A complete masterpiece when it comes to coming-of-age stories. It's such a surreal and accurate portrayal of high school insecurity, growing up, relationships, etc. It also has a great sense of humor, being almost too realistic at times. Lou Taylor Pucci was amazing, I was comple...( read more)tely blown away with his performance. He was such a real character, flaws and all he was still a lovable character. Unlike many other movies like it, Thumbsucker has a style and mood that is both unique and true to life. It covers so much ground in so little time and you are left in awe.

An Indie. Odd, mellow but unique. Down to earth. Plain & real enough to have the minimum use of so-called 'dramatic' coating (alias the bubble-gum, fairy-tale like- thou there are still some). A super cast- Lou Pucci gives a very convincing performance off a confusing, comin' off...( read more) age adolescent boy. Great supportings also from Vincent D'Onofrio, Vince Vaugh. Lovely acoustic soundtracks too.

An interesting character study/coming of age story. Great turns by all of the supporting cast. Story rambles a little.
