I absolutly loved this movie. It was great how she experienced everything at extremes. Great lesbian movie.
Very interesting tale of love between two women in victorian england. Very good acting and story line.
I had nothing to do so I started watching this, it had an interessting title.
I have one thing to say about it.
LOVE it!! I feel like watching it again tonight
What would you do if your first love step back into your life once again and ask you to come back with her/him?
Sensational! I just had to watch it, after getting a sneek peek at it at a friends place b4 her paretns changes the channel!
Exploration of Self.. Sexuality and the world, all come together in this movie.
As we follow nan throu her 'inner journey' to a more physical one, we discover as she does, the truth about her self and the way the world can view certian preferrences.
With each chapter comes the next story of nans journey. Keeley proving herself sensational wen combined with Racheal proves to be a cute couple and performance.
Throu nans ups and downs.. we see her go throu relationships.. bad life chioces and seek out her 'true' love.. even if its nto wat i expected or wanted!
Worth seeing for those who care for the smaller details in movies.. that end with an unexpected but predictable still, ending.
recommended for a more girly movie nite chioce.
Theatrical Victorian Lesbians... GOOD. Miniseries Format... BAD. I love it despite having to fast forward through credits in the middle of the story.
As long as it was, it kept me wanting to watch more and find out what ultimately happens to our girl....
Two lovers, lesbians who are in love, who are not allowed to love the same sex in those days .This adaptation of Sarah Waters popular novel follows Nan Astley (Rachael Stirling) as she blossoms into womanhood and explores her sexuality, ostensibly forbidden in Victorian society.
It is surprising that a production like this gets made these days, especially for television. Considering the strong sexual themes and explicit lovemaking scenes, not to mention lesbianism, this has been given superb treatment and direction.
I think it has to be said that this is far more than just an exploitive picture of a same sex relationship. It is a true story of love and the world surrounding it.
Tale of forbidden love in Victorian England. Nan has a marraige "arranged" to an outwardly fine gentleman-of-society, but her world falls into turmoil when she meets and falls in love with the very sexy Kitty.
Geez, I don't know why they even bother asking about my star rating...it's gotta be good or why else am I saying that this is my fav?! ...WEIRD.
A good adaptation, but I felt that the inculsion of peril from which Nan had to be resuced by Diana rather unnecessary.
very interesting! well made. A lot of romanticism and... more. I suppose this is what a woman see as a accomplished life is
This movie is broken up into three parts, each part taking a new step. Wonderfully crafted. Very unique and cute! Great storyline.
This really should be Fingersmth. Seriously. I like Fingersmith a whole lot more than this movie, but since it's not on here, i'll just have TTV stand in for it.
Entertaining period drama, yet far behind the brilliant novel.
I heard they are making a remake with Beyonce Knowles and Eva Longoria (by Sofia Coppola) - I am doubtful, though excited about the, uhm, talented cast. Call me big old macho if you like... ;-)
This is brilliantly acted and entirely original lesbian fare! I absolutely loved it, and had to watch the whole thing beginning until end after buying it. I was totally enthralled. It is brilliant.
besides the average editing, it was a blast. Rachael Stirling did a fine job portraying male impersonator Nan Astley.
It was ok, but I recall seeing a French & Saunders parody of this film & thought it was absolutely hilarious.
I thought this was a mini series. At least it was shown as such on Showcase. Either way wonderful story and definetly worth the time.
One of my favourites, and probably always will be. Like Jurassic Park, I can watch it over, and over, and over again. The books pretty fabulous also.
Rachael Stirling and Keeley Hawes are unforgettable as lesbians in Victorian England. A masterful adaptation of Sarah Waters' debut novel.
