Hands down, the bleakest Ozu film I have seen, the film is really pessimistic without having any humour, unlike Tokyo Story or any Ozu film for that matter. From the start, you get deceived, then, as it goes along, the perception you would have dies out. It is long but never dull...( read more)

Keeping in mind that this movie has Ozu pacing as well, this is a fantastic movie that just takes a while to get started. It's a bit confusing who is the central character in this piece, but that's a small problem on the grand scale of things.
