I would have given this movie a 9/10 (4.5/5) had it not been for the rather abrupt and awkward conclusion of the Cowboy gang and the really cool and very well executed as well as being original final gunfight(s) (sorry for the run-on). This is one of the grandest casts of character actors I think I have ever seen, from Powers Boothe to Val Kilmer to Thomas Haden Church and Joe Pantoliano, and even Charleton Heston for christ's sake!!
Overall this is a really good Western, and definitely in the top 5 modern westerns I have seen (that would be post-90's).

Pretty good western. It really picks up in the second half, and the characters of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday were pretty compelling.

A well rounded retelling of the OK corral incident. First film that depicts Doc and Wyatt as friends. I want to marry Doc Holiday!

Jim swears on this movie. I'm surprised because I'll lump this one in with one of the more fun Westerns, but not one of the absolute excellent movies.

I was told to see this movie for Val Kilmer's performance. Honestly, it really is the draw for this movie. Doc Holliday is clearly the quirkiest character in this movie and the most nuanced. He's a conflicted one. I know that the filmmakers wanted to make Kurt Russell's Wyatt Earp the conflcited one. Russell does an adequate job. But when you put Val Kilmer next to Kurt Russell, there's little to be compared or argued. Kilmer really is a talented actor and it is a shame that he has this strange stigma about him. I do not know why Hollywood is afraid to hand him leading parts. The few times I have ever seen him in a sole leading role was in Batman Forever, which hardly allowed him to really stretch his wings. But between this part and in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, I really have to look at his performances from now on far more closely.

The biggest issue this movie has is the reality of the situation. While the story of Wyatt Earp, Tombstone, and the O.K. Corrall is legendary, there is a dangerous line in trying to be honorable to the original story. So this movie is, unfortunately, quite anticlimactic. The reality of the situation isn't exaclty filmmaking material, so the creators decided to make these overly Hollywood moments that make it even worse. There's a moment where Wyatt Earp just crosses a river and doesn't get shot. I know that they were aiming for the practically suicidal Wyatt Earp, showing the complexity of the character. But they weren't stupid. They know they wanted this badass moment. Too bad that it was so over the top and silly that you just couldn't buy it. I wish he got shot at least once. I mean, how badass would it have been if he got shot and still kept walking as if it barely affected him. If Ronald Reagan could do it, I don't see why Wyatt Earp couldn't.

The casting in this movie is absolutely absurd. Like I was saying with Young Guns, Hollywood doesn't mind throwing down a ton of cash to get the biggest cast ever. I mean, Frank Stallone? THE Frank Stallone? (Okay, I'm being sarcastic, but there's a ton of huge actors even in small parts. It's great to see a fat early Billy Bob Thorton in this tiny part.) But the combination of this cast was fantastic. There's only one casting part that rubbed me wrong. Jason Priestly has since partially redeemed himself since this movie, but this is in the heyday of Jason Priestly. This is 90210 Jason Priestly. And boy-oh-boy, does he stick out like a sore thumb. It's actually kind of rough. I guess I also have ot give sh*t to Billy Zane. But there's a huge difference between Zane and Priestly. Zane always kind of sucked and was mistaken for a good actor. I remember being exceptionally young and loving him in The Phantom. But I was wrong. He sucks. He sucks hard. He's not meant to be great. But I lvoe the fact that he is supposed to play a great actor when he can't act to begin with. It's a real shame.

I have to stress that this movie is much more of a fun movie than it is a good movie. The real focus of this movie should be the fantastic character that Val Kilmer brings to this part that could have been simply thrown away. The movie is much more interesting if you look at that character's conflict. The other stuff is fun...but you should really give him all the props for this movie.

This is the story of members of one of the greatest gunfights in US history, the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. The film focuses on "Wyatt Earp" (Kurt Russell), who reunites with his brothers "Virgil" (Sam Elliot, who seems to favor doing Westerns when one comes up) and "Morgan" (Bill Paxton) and the rest of his faction in the famed gun battle including the ailing "Doc Holiday" (Val Kilmer).

The film not only runs through the months and days leading to the gunfight, but it also shows the battle and its fallout where the Earp Gang goes after .

The first thing you will notice in this movie has an authentic look. The costumes, though none had that "worn" look, looked real authentic right down to the buttons. Even facial hair on the men looked to be the style worn during the time of the Gunfight at the OK Corral.

There are some good performances in this film. Russell does a good job in the feature role, and Kilmer almost steals every scene he is in. If you want somebody in a Western, then you have to go to Elliott. Just about every film I've seen him in, Elliott has appeared in one and basically has made a name for these roles. One actor I suggest you take a look at is the one playing OK Corral survivor Billy Claiborne. Claiborne is played by Wyatt Earp, the fifth cousin of the real man played by Russell.

Many of the supporting cast does do good performances. But, because a lot of the screenplay was cut, they aren't really developed well.

The soundtrack to the film is not really memorable. I can barely remember any music in this film. I do remember mostly instrumentals, but nothing spectacular.

Like other Westerns, there is violence in this movie. However, it is a bit more graphic than some of the classics with "The Duke" John Wayne. When Westerns were the thing in Hollywood, you would get people shot with blood running from the "wound" (usually a blood pack hidden in the actor's hand), but in this one the blood comes squirting out. You will also get close-ups of body parts where a bullet hole will appear when they are hit. I clearly remember a close-up of one "Cowboy" being shot by "Wyatt", and a bullet hole appearing in the dead center of his forehead (without a burst of blood).

This movie tries to show us the lives and relationships of the Earps and Holiday. However, no historian knows with 100% certainty anything about these men. Much of what we see is pure speculation on these men. But with the performances of the cast, you can believe that these are how these people actually were.

There are many scenes which drag on, but the pace is pretty good for the entire movie. It may not be a movie for everybody, but it's still a good movie and could be a pretty good rental.

Might be one of the best westerns ever. I dare say, even better than the Eastwood Man with No Name Trilogy. Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday and Michael Biehn steal most of the movie from Kurt Russel's Wyatt Earp.

Sit at home & be bored by a movie or go see a boring western with Kurt Russell?? Hard choice. Damn was I wrong GOOD strong movie. Had me leavin the theater promising to remember the actor that had a girl's name because he had impressed me with his acting & Southern genteel accent. He FINALLY got it right. Val had 3 cracks at a southern accent. True Romance, The Real Mc Coy & this one. This is the best.

Tombstone is quite possibly the greatest western ever. Based on the true story of legendary lawman Wyatt Earp, Tombstone has some of the greatest performances by any actor ever. Val Kilmer's portayal of legendary gunfighter Doc Holiday is astounding, as is Michael Biehn's Johnny Ringo. Tombstone is a no-holds barred action movie about revenge and redemption, an absolute classic.

''I spent my whole life not knowing what I want out of it, just chasing my tail. Now for the first time I know exactly what I want and who... that's the damnable misery of it.''

A successful lawman's plans to retire anonymously in Tombstone, Arizona, are disrupted by the kind of outlaws he was famous for eliminating.

    Kurt Russell: Wyatt Earp

    Val Kilmer: Doc Holliday

If you love westerns or action flicks you have to love Tombstone. The movie is simply loved. The directing is top notch. Tombstone focuses on accuracy while creating an exciting story.

Kurt Russell who leads, never fails to give an electric performance he is on top form as Wyatt Earp.
Val Kilmer is the total essense of Wyatt's friend Doc Holiday in gaunt like looks and his disposition.
Wyatt and his brothers arrive with their wives in tombstone looking for a peaceful place to settle down. Dana Delaney is the beautiful lady Wyatt falls for though his already married. His wife is a drug addict and Wyatt's marriage doesn't seem to be working out the way he hoped it could have. Wyatt is in retirement but Doc isn't but soon trouble comes in the form of an outlaw gang called the cowboys wearing red scarves tied to their belts. They cause all kinds of trouble wherever they go. One night they kill the town sheriff and then they bring their revenge and kill Wyatt's brother Morgan.

Wyatt is spurred out of retirement for good and becomes US marshal seeking his own vengeful brand of justice. Soon a shootout takes place and even Doc gets in on the action too alongside his friend.

My fave scene involves Michael Biehn as Johnny Ringo and Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday. Val Kilmer spinning his gun albeith with a cup I could watch all day, first time I saw this I knew Tombstone was great! This scene I always remember alot alongside Val Kilmer who steals the film in my opinion.

This is one of the best western shootouts I've ever seen I'm not usually a big fan of westerns that don't have Clint or John Wayne but Tombstone has an amazing story about real people and events that sucks you in. Tombstone was very enjoyable and the film was brilliantly acted there were no boring scenes throughout the entire film it was a great ride.

Don't miss this you will not be disappointed with an all male cast including Kurt Russell,Val Kilmer,Bill Paxton,Michael Biehn,Sam Elliot,Billy Zane, and loads of others you cannot go wrong with.

A masterpiece and one of my favourite movies.

No question I think this is easily Val Kilmer's best role to date. He has all the best lines, the best swagger, and steals every scene he can get his mug in. It's a shame he wasn't nominated the year this came out, but then again some say the western has been dead for years. I beg to differ although this one does go on a bit too long and has a bit of an awkward romance between Wyatt Earp and Josephine. But I will have to say the fantastic cast makes up quite a bit and Kilmer commands it in the right direction along with Russell who through his weight around as the lead. Best line: "I'm your huckleberry..." or "You're a daisy if you do!" Hard to call so many great one liners from Doc Holiday Kilmer.

This was one I'd heard of over the years but Westerns aren't something I normally watch so I didn't pay it any mind. Mom and I were flipping through channels one night and saw Kurt Russell talking to Dana Delany. Not knowing anything about the film or who its other stars were I thought "Hmm... so this is Tombstone..."

Then *he* appeared, stealing scenes one by one with the greatest of ease. The movie became immediately more gratifying every time he spoke, and the TV itself seemed to resent scenes with him absent. Both mom and I were fascinated by the educated genteel with a death wish, quick guns, and even quicker wit.

I wasn't surprised when I read reviews and found my sentiments unanimously shared with viewers and critics alike: Val Kilmer is *amazing* in probaby one of the top Oscar-snubbed performances of the 20th century.

    MICHAEL BIEHN!!!!

(Interesting note: Michael Biehn + mustache = villain [such as in the Abyss and Tombstone], whereas Michael Biehn + clean-shaven = hero [like in the Terminator and Aliens]. Coincidence?)
