Dennis Harvey, Variety
Uninspired effort.
-
Steve Biodrowski, ESplatter
A laughably bad post-apocalyptic thriller.
-
Brian Tallerico, The Deadbolt
The kind of action flick that is so forgettable, it nearly fades away while you're watching it.
-
Michael Ferraro, Bronsonfive
Tooth and Nail is part of the After Dark Horror series and like many of the other films under this label, it's just as forgettable.
-
Scott Weinberg, FEARnet
Adds very little to the cannibal crazies / survival horror sub-genre -- despite its admirable-yet-ineffective attempts at creating a post-apocalyptic world.
-
Luke Y. Thompson, L.A. Weekly
The Road Warrior minus the roads, so what's the point?
-
Dustin Putman, DustinPutman.com
A well-acted, professionally lensed post-apocalyptic thriller.

A stupid, stupid, stupid end of the world style film. Apparently when the world runs out of gas, people go mental. It will be impossible to grow crops (from what I gather) and all animals will die out forcing people to cannibalism. None of this is really explained in any depth. It just turns into a stalk and slash movie with Madsen and Jones in pretty much cameo roles. The acting isn't terrible and it breezes along OK, but the initial idea is so stupid it both infuriates and confuzzles.

Ridiculous plot to start off with. If you're going to say, "we just ran out of oil" is the reason for the "end of the world" that argument's gonna need to be fleshed out for me to even begin believing it, and the dialogue given about the past few years is too vague and fictionally stereotypical that it really had no point in the movie; we could have used a much more believable setting, even if it meant A) totally scrapping the oil idea or B) making this "no oil" world somewhere near factual as opposed to a scenario pulled out of the ass without bothering to even wipe it off at the library.
Now, onto the "horror" portion of this movie. It is a cannibal movie, very straight-forward, and actually the cannibal band does better than screenwriter when it comes to using logic. Right off the bat, I'd have to day that eating nothing but people does not make one a superbuff agile warrior. At best, you'd just be staying alive, not look all 'roided up and dressed in the leftover costuming from a Viking porno.
I think the killing scenes are pretty good. The cannibalism is held back til the end; really for a cannibal film, it's really short on people eatin.
I do like the tension provided by the victims staying huddled in a central building and the midday scene with the cannibals in the lot looking in at the people is creepy, but again, illogical. The 'seeking' scenes (when the people hide and the cannibals come to pick one dish for the night) are nicely cut and tense, but those are the highlights of this movie. So like maybe four good scenes and the rest is pointless bullshit.

Ok film with a intesting promise.Worth checking out.

Nothing original, but respectably done and decently acted; nice to see Robert Carradine in a change of pace role.

This is goooooooooooooooooooooood, so underrated!!!! The story is one of the bests I've seen, realistic also.

A group of survivors in a post apocalyptic, oiless future world, hideout in an abandoned hospital, whilst they are stalked and killed off, one-by-one, by a gang of cannibals. If this brief synopsis didn't give it away, this movie is going for a Dawn of the Dead meets Mad Max type of affair. While this is nowhere near as exceptional as those two films, this is still a pretty good exercise in genre filmmaking that has a good sense of atmosphere, decent analog gore effects, a good amount of action and small performances from Michael Madsen and Vinnie Jones. It is hampered by a fairly lazy story, some questionable dialouge and some bad acting, but these flaws shouldn't really prevent you from enjoying this. Yes, it leaves a lot to be desired, but it is also a reliable good time. Recommended for fans of Post-Apocalyptic / Horror / Thriller's.

The basic story is interesting, but they fail to explain how everything turned out as it did and why they couldn't resolve the issue. As the movie proceeds it's easy to come up with better solutions to their problems which makes the experience very frustrating. Some parts are way too slow and sentimental. Despite these flaws I found the movie pretty enjoyable, "end of the world"-stories is always engaging and Vinnie Jones is always worth seeing.

I thought any post apocalypse movie had to be decent at the very least, but this movie went above and beyond the call of duty to prove me wrong. A twist ending that's very easy to figure out (though in the film's defense, it's not like the whole movie hinged on the twist ending) and a boring cast of characters make this one tough watch. I found myself doodling on a random piece of paper more than watching this which I'm pretty certain is not a good sign.

This one is such a stupid post apocalyptic film with cannibals that doesn't make sense just because of the bad script & the unrealistic scenarios going on.The film also goes at a slow pace with pointless dialog & most of time it stays in one location inside an abandoned hospital.I was hoping to see these cannibals eating people & turning this flick into a bloody mayhem or at least to see some interesting death scenes. It takes awhile before the cannibals with hideous outfits really comes to get their prey but instead Michael Madsen is the first one to show up looking like the leader of the pack. The plot & the characters are so unconvincing. Most interesting things & effective death scenes are happening tours the end of the film.

This was a good movie. Only reasoned I chanced to see it was because of Michael Madsen. It was predictable, but I enjoyed the movie.

You can fault some of the cheesy props, costumes, and effects on budget sure, but they utilized all the wrong actors.. Michael Madsen, Vinnie Jones, and Michael Kelly were all but ignored and should have had more influence on the film.. and the actors you wanted them to ignore. . .well, wouldn't go away...
